We will learn more as the hours and days go on, but there has been another shooting on a US military base. So far, two people have been reported killed.
Lackland Airforce Base is like all other military bases in this country. The people who are most trained and qualified to carry weapons – the military men and women – are prohibited from doing so. Only those who need to carry a weapon for their job -- aka Military Police -- are allowed to do so.
We leave our soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen completely vulnerable. The base put out an emergency announcement on the PA system telling everyone on base to lock their doors, close their blinds, and turn off the lights until the threat was neutralized. Is that how far we've fallen? We're telling our heroes to hide?
Here we have men and women who are trained and proficient in the use of firearms but are told to shelter in place because the Obama administration doesn’t want them to carry guns on base…
How many more people have to die before we get rid of this awful anti-gun policy?
In the past few months, we’ve made a lot of progress on getting the Bill Clinton/George HW Bush-era ban on military concealed carry lifted. Only 15% of the country still believes that it is a good idea to make our soldiers sitting ducks on their own bases.
Yesterday, in fact, Army Chief of Staff Mark Milley testified before Congress that he was against the idea of allowing soldiers on base to concealed carry their own firearms.
He has flat out refused to budge on this.
I’m not going to pretend to know what happened on base today in Texas. Early reports are that it was a murder-suicide.
But the fact remains that this is one of many such attacks on US military bases and the only common thread is the fact that our soldiers and officers are powerless to protect themselves.
We advertise to the whole world that the most powerful military is actually defenseless on its own military bases.

Last year, we had a lot of tragedies on military bases. The terror attack in Chattanooga was just one of them. You rose up and demanded that Congress change the law and that’s exactly what they did. They passed an amendment to the defense spending bill allowing for concealed carry on military bases… but only if the commanding officer agrees with the practice.
The result? Anti-gun high ranking officers have kept the ban alive. Even the Army Chief of Staff admitted he’s against allowing concealed carry on all military bases.
This is unbelievable!
How many more of our men and women in uniform need to die before we give them the ability to defend themselves? How many more tragedies must we suffer before we let the people who are most trained fire back?
The amendment that Congress passed last year was a good start. It took the power away from Obama and gave it to the military commanders. The problem is that most of them are still enforcing the ban!
Our soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines are still sitting ducks. I don’t know about you, but I am DONE hearing about shootings, murders, and terror attacks on military bases. Enough is enough!
