Yesterday, a man showed up to a small church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. In this small town of just over 600 people, almost fifty people were shot while they were gathered in the church for their Sunday service. 26 of these victims ended up dying from their wounds.
The gunman had plenty of ammunition. He could have kept going. However, a neighbor heard the shooting, showed up with his own rifle, and was able to shoot the gunman, forcing him to flee. This neighbor then hopped into a passing car and chased the shooter down. During the 95 MPH chase, the shooter's vehicle eventually ran off the road. He died in his car. Reports are that one of the neighbor's first shots hit the killer and caused him to bleed to death before police even arrived on the scene.
This was a tragedy. Children were among the dead. This shooter was going through the church and killing worshippers execution style. If he was allowed to continue his rampage, many more would have been among the dead.
But he was interrupted by a good samaritan who heard the shooting and was compelled to act. That is the only thing that forced him to stop his rampage. In this rural area of Texas, the first responder was not a police officer. It was a law abiding citizen with a gun.
None of this apparently matters to liberal Democrats and Republicans. Before the bodies were even counted, the Left was once again calling for gun control and demanding that Congress make it even harder for people to defend themselves in public. And what is even worse is that we already know the GOP is considering it...
The shooter -- Devin Kelley -- was dishonorably discharged from the military in 2014 for beating his wife and child. Under Federal law, a dishonorable discharge is the same as a felony. Therefore, he was not legally allowed to own a gun. Yet, like most criminals, he got one anyway because he literally doesn't care about the law. He was also denied a concealed weapons permit by Texas, likely for his dishonorable discharge. And still, he completely flaunted the law and illegally carried his weapons anyway.
Democrats are now calling for a ban on the guns used by both the perpetrator and the good samaritan who saved the day. They are also calling on GOP leadership to cancel any votes on pro-gun legislation like the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.
Dianne Feinstein, the author of the last Assault Weapon Ban and the one pushing the new ban, immediately took to Twitter demanding that Congress "do something." Practically every other major Democrat echoed her sentiment, demanding a vote on gun control legislation instead of this pro-gun bill.
We're a day removed and as of this morning, all of the bodies still hadn't been removed from the church. Yet these politicians choose to stand on their graves and push their agenda. A month ago, the pastor of that church gave a homily talking about how it isn't the tool's fault. Evil people will do evil things, whether they use a gun, a boxcutter on an airplane, or diesel and fertilizer. This congregation and community believes in the right to keep and bear arms, as evidenced by the fact that the massacre was halted by a neighbor with a gun.
And yet, Feinstein is pushing her latest ban. While she claims to be targeting "bumpstocks," her legislation actually would ban any accessory that could possibly make a gun fire faster. That puts magazines, pistol grips, adjustable stocks, and even hand guards on the chopping block. All of these were banned features under Feinstein's assault weapon ban. She knows that she will never get a full ban through Congress. So, she is packaging it up as an "accessory ban" that is vague enough to put millions of guns and accessories in the crosshairs.
Last week, Paul Ryan issued his decision. He would allow a vote on a major gun bill as long as Conservatives removed the major pro-gun measures from within it. No concealed carry reciprocity... no abolishing old, outdated gun laws... Instead, he ordered that Feinstein's bill be added as an amendment instead.
Democrats and liberal Republicans are seizing on this tragedy to make another push for gun control. Their proposal would have done nothing to stop Kelley from killing those innocent people, but it would have put the good samaritan who ended the crime in jeopardy.
Don't let them get away with this!
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Sometimes, that good guy is a police officer. Other times, it is a law abiding gun owner who just happens to be in the area.
Criminals and evildoers will always find a way to kill people. But if Democrats and RINOs get their way, law abiding gun owners wouldn't be able to fight back.
Our demand is two-fold and our goal is to hit Congress with half a million faxblasts delivered today. That is why we need your help.
First, Congress MUST kill this Feinstein gun ban bill. More than ten Republican Congressmen have already signed onto the House version. After this latest tragedy, it is once again gaining steam even though it would have done nothing to stop the massacre. You need to rise up and kill it before Paul Ryan is able to attach the measure to a must-pass piece of legislation.
Secondly, Congress must pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and empower law abiding gun owners to carry their firearms nationwide to help protect against these sorts of attacks. Right now, if someone has a permit to carry, they are allowed to do so only in their home state and other states that agree to honor their permit. I have a carry permit from not one, but TWO different states. Even with both permits, I am only allowed to exercise my 2nd Amendment rights in 37 states. There are thirteen states that deny my right to defend myself and as I drive across country from time to time, I am forced to disarm before I enter states like Illinois or New Jersey. There are millions of Americans who are being denied their right to carry for absolutely no reason. This bill fixes that.
Unless someone is a retired police officer, it is currently impossible to legally bear arms in every state. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would change that and make any concealed carry permit valid nationwide!
We are so close to getting this passed. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is now just two votes away from having enough support to pass. Ryan and the GOP establishment have been stalling, preferring instead to discuss the Left's gun control proposals.
Our once in a generation opportunity to tear down more than a century of unconstitutional state gun laws is slipping through our fingers. Don't let this happen!
