Mexico has always turned a blind eye to just how porous the US-Mexico border is. It is well documented how corrupt the Mexican police force has become. Cartels pay-off many Mexican police officers to turn a blind eye to their border smuggling operations.

Mexican politicians also have an incentive to get caravan migrants out of their country as fast as possible. The last thing the Mexican government wants is to be forced to take care of these migrants. They would much rather force them onto the United States...

But with the Coronavirus pandemic, Mexico is now suddenly concerned about just how porous their borders are...

Hugo Lopez-Gatell, Mexico's Deputy Health Secretary (shown above), announced that authorities would consider "mechanisms" to control the flow of people entering Mexico from the United States in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

"The possible flow of coronavirus would come from the north to the south. If it were technically necessary, we would consider mechanisms of restriction or stronger surveillance," Lopez-Gatell explained at a news conference.

The reason that Mexico's number of confirmed Coronavirus cases remains low is because that country, like so many countries, is having a difficult time testing people. Only three labs in Mexico, as of last week, were set up to process Coronavirus testing kits.

But it is certainly fresh to hear the Mexican government start to care about border security. Imagine how many innocent American lives would have been spared if these same Mexican officials cared about protecting them...
