Today, the United States Senate will vote on Nancy Pelosi's Resolution of Disapproval to block President Trump from using emergency funding to build the border wall.
As we have covered in-depth over the past couple of weeks, President Trump is fully within his legal and constitutional rights to do this. The National Emergencies Act of 1976 allows the President to use discretionary funding to deal with crises confronting the nation. It has been invoked close to 60 times since the late-1970s. The vast majority of those orders were to protect other countries.
Not once has Congress ever tried to challenge a Presidential national emergency. Past Congresses were more than happy to let Presidents invoke national emergencies to protect countries like Belarus, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Lebanon.
But because President Trump invoked this statute to actually help the United States, Congress is trying to block him.
Late last night, Mike Lee announce that he would cast the fifth GOP vote to block Trump's national emergency. That gives the Democrats enough votes to pass this resolution.
When that happens, the bill will go to Trump's desk where he has promised to veto it.
Here's the problem. We aren't just talking about 5 GOP defections. But there are dozens of other House and Senate Republicans who are still on the fence about this. They are just waiting for the political cover to vote against Trump's wall.
Democrats aren't declaring victory yet. They don't just want to send the resolution to Trump's desk. They want to flip enough GOPers so they can override a Trump veto!
That is the Left's end game. Senators Susan Collins (ME), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Thom Tillis (NC), Rand Paul (KY), and Mike Lee (UT) are all definite Yes votes. But they aren't the only ones looking to flip. Lamar Alexander (TN), Marco Rubio (FL), Corey Gardner (CO), Jerry Moran (KS), Pat Toomey (PA), Ted Cruz (TX), Rob Portman (OH), Todd Young (IN), Dan Sullivan (AK), Ben Sasse (NE), Ron Johnson (WI), Johnny Isakson (GA), and Mitt Romney (UT) have all either threatened or hinted at voting with Democrats today. Martha McSally (AZ) was on that list, but she announced last night that she would vote to protect Pres. Trump's wall project.
That all adds up to 18 Republican Senate votes. That's just TWO away from giving the Democrats enough votes to override Trump's veto.
If that happens, Republicans in the House will start falling like flies. Dozens are willing to vote against Pres. Trump's border wall order, but only if their votes mean something. Since Democrats already had the votes to pass the resolution in the House, only most GOPers held off from voting to block the order then. But if the Senate falls with a super majority, then these spineless Republicans have all the cover they need to vote against the President.
The future of the border wall project -- and the future of this country -- will be decided with today's vote. President Trump and Vice President Pence are manning the phones to try to stop this GOP betrayal. But they need YOUR help to put the fear back into these Republican Congressmen and Senators!
The vote is happening today. You CANNOT let the Republican establishment team up with the Left to block the border wall!
If all of these Republicans flip, there's no coming back. They are all currently on the fence. The vote could go either way...
Democrats aren't just trying to send the bill to Trump's desk. They want to have the votes to override his veto and kill the border wall project for good!
We are seeing -- first hand -- what the establishment's open border policies look like. Illegal alien David Ramirez Gonzalez was just arrested in Alabama and charged with raping a 12 year old girl. He was deported back in 2008 and 2009, but because the border is wide open, he was able to just walk back into the US.
24-year-old illegal alien Carlos Eduardo Arevalo Carranza was just arrested in California and charged with murdering a 59-year-old woman. In just the last couple years, ICE has tried to have him deported at least a half a dozen times. But because he lives in California, he was protected by sanctuary city policies. He was deported once back in 2013, but managed to re-enter the United States almost immediately.
The country's open borders are killing innocent Americans.
President Trump sees what is happening. After the GOP abandoned the border wall funding back in February, Trump decided to use his legal and constitutional powers to reprogram funding to build the wall anyway.
Today, the GOP is poised to block him and keep the border wide open for decades to come.
I know you have a lot going on in your life. But this is important. The vote is today and more Republicans are starting to cave.
