Yesterday, my jaw hit the floor. Like so many of these brainstorming sessions, President Trump threw out some gun control ideas that were absolute deal-breakers.
At one point, he actually urged Dianne Feinstein to add her assault weapon ban to the gun control package as an amendment. She was visibly excited.
That had most Trump supporters angry last night. Just like the immigration round-table, where Trump seemed to accidentally support the idea of a "clean" amnesty bill, he was quick to issue a correction this morning.
"Many ideas, some good and some not so good, emerged from our bipartisan meeting on school safety yesterday at the White House. Background checks a big part of the conversation; Gun free zones are proven targets of killers. After many years, a bill should emerge. Respect [the] 2nd Amendment!"
But yesterday's televised meeting has done serious damage and Democrats and cowardly Republicans are taking advantage of the new opening.
Dianne Feinstein is excitedly re-drafting her Assault Weapon Ban to include even more banned guns. When Trump suggested she add her gun ban into the package, she literally started shaking with glee (shown above). The newest House version of the bill would go after every semi-automatic firearm in the country (including self-defense handguns). Already, multiple supposedly pro-gun Republican Congressmen have agreed to vote for a semi-automatic ban. They are getting picked off like flies.
Legislation to restore the right to carry for all Americans is being cut up in the Senate and left on the cutting room floor, after President Trump said as an aside to Steve Scalise that nationwide reciprocity would need to be a standalone bill.
Over the course of a single day, we went from being on offense to now being on defense.
We went from being on the verge of a major 2nd Amendment victory to having to fight back against the same assaults on our liberties that were pushed by the Obama administration.
The President means well, but he has lost many of the conservative advisors who once guided him on this. He believes in the 2nd Amendment, but doesn't have the proper guidance.
Right now, our only defense against these heinous gun control proposals is Congress and it is up to YOU to hold their feet to the fire!
There's no way around it. President Trump messed up yesterday, but he is working to fix it.
Unfortunately, Democrats and spineless Republicans see an opening. They're meeting behind closed doors to discuss these massive gun control packages because they think they can get them signed into law.
That means a massive gun ban targeting all semi-automatic firearms in America. That means a ban of all "large capacity magazines," even though the shooter in Florida used 10-round magazines..
That means a huge gun owner registry, which is a building block towards the final goal of confiscation.
Democrats are taking the pro-gun bills off the table. Once willing to compromise on things like concealed carry reciprocity, they now think they can push gun control on its own.
This is all happening at break-neck speed. We do not have the luxury of sitting this out and hoping for the best.
If you wait, it will be too late. Do not let these gun grabbers gain any momentum!
