There isn't another country on earth that offers citizenship to anyone born in the country with no strings attached.
However for decades, a Constitutional amendment designed to make sure that freed slaves were given full citizenship. The 14th Amendment was passed, giving citizenship to people who are born in the United States of America and "subject to the jurisdiction thereof."
This was never intended to give citizenship to illegal aliens born in the country. If that was the case, then the 14th Amendment would simply have given citizenship to everyone born in the US. But instead, Congress added the second requirement: that they be subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.
This was never supposed to apply to foreigners. Yet, over the years, this clearly written amendment has been bastardized to grant citizenship to anyone who just happens to be born on American soil.
One of President Trump's earliest campaign issues was so-called birthright citizenship. And he promised that if elected, he would work to see the 14th Amendment returned to its original intended meaning.
After almost a year and a half, he is now pushing the issue of birthright citizenship!
At a roundtable discussion in West Virginia, Trump literally tossed his prepared remarks and doubled down on the immigration promises that got him elected. That included blasting illegal aliens and anchor babies.
"You're violating something very special," he said. "You're violating a border."
The President is now pressuring Congress to pass a law eliminating anchor babies ll together and Conservatives are answering his call!
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) has introduced the Birthright Citizenship Act. This bill is simple and the text sits at only two pages long. The legislation would clarify the intended meaning of the 14th Amendment and only provide birthright citizenship to children of American citizens, lawful permanent residents, and foreigners serving in the United States military.
The legislation wouldn't deal with the 4 million anchor babies already living in the country, but it would prevent future illegal aliens from giving birth to American citizens.
Over the past year, the President has been getting really bad advice on immigration. His advisors have pushed him to the left on the signature issues that got him elected.
But this month, Trump decided to ditch their script and fulfill the promises he made. He pulled his amnesty offer to Democrats, ordered border wall construction to begin anyway, and just deployed US military personnel to the border.
Now, he is going after the anchor baby issue. The reason they are called 'anchor babies' is because when a newborn becomes an American citizen, the mother (and often the father too) automatically get to stay in the US. Even if they are illegal aliens, the liberal Courts have ruled that they become untouchable. With chain migration, these anchor babies end up "sponsoring" more and more of their relatives. One child can end up bringing a dozen people into the United States.
The Birthright Citizenship Act would put a stop to this.
Listen, it's not just about illegal aliens. Every year, thousands of foreigners legally come to the United States on vacation with the intent of giving birth to an American citizen. Foreign diplomats -- who clearly do not fall under the jurisdiction of the United States -- are allowed to have their children in American hospitals. Even though the parents have diplomatic immunity and literally are not under American jurisdiction, their children become citizens.
President Trump is dropping the hammer and demanding a vote on the Birthright Citizenship Act. The GOP leadership is bucking him at every turn.
It is up to you to back the President up and DEMAND a full vote on Rep. King's common sense bill!
President Trump is doing everything he can on his own. He just signed an executive order revoking the Obama "catch and release" policy at the border. As I said, he just deployed the military to the border. He is moving forward with border wall construction.
But without help from Congress, there's only so much he can do.
Birthright citizenship for illegal aliens must end. This bill would do that. The President is urging Congress to pass Rep. King's bill, but he needs your help to force the vote!
