We all remember Operation Fast and Furious, the gunwalking operation under the Obama administration that allowed thousands of firearms to make their way into the cartels' hands. When Congress tried to investigate, Barack Obama used executive privilege to keep former-Attorney General Eric Holder's emails classified.
What not everyone knows, however, is that Fast and Furious was used as an excuse to launch a major gun registry in the United States.
After the Obama administration's incompetence led to so many guns being trafficked into Mexico, the ATF announced the implementation of "Demand Letter 3." Even though US law explicitly prohibits the Federal government from creating or maintaining a registry of gun owners, that is exactly what Demand Letter 3 did.
Anytime an American buys more than one gun at a time, the Federal government adds that person's name to a database, presuming that person is a criminal.
We know for a FACT that the Obama ATF used Fast and Furious as an excuse to launch this gun registry. On July 14, 2010, ATF Field Ops Assistant Director Mark Chait emailed the agent in charge of Fast and Furious in Phoenix.
"Bill - can you see if these guns were all purchased from the same [licensed gun dealer] and at one time. We are looking at anecdotal cases to support a demand letter on long gun multiple sales."
This policy is still on the books. Americans are still being surveilled by the Federal government if they buy more than one firearm over two short of a period.
But one Congressman is trying to change that. Rep. Evan Jenkins (R-WV) has just introduced HR1976, the Protecting the 2nd Amendment Act. This legislation would formally eliminate the ATF's Demand Letter 3 policy and eliminate the last remaining vestige of Barack Obama's gun control agenda!
So far, Congress has teamed up with President Trump to roll-back dozens of Obama-era regulations. One of these repeal bills targeted Obama's Social Security gun ban which threatened to disarm hundreds of thousands of elderly and disabled Americans if implemented. Republicans and Democrats teamed up to make sure that Social Security beneficiaries were not targeted for disarmament.
Over the past 4 years, we have put tremendous pressure on Congress to defend the 2nd Amendment and fight against Barack Obama's anti-gun agenda.
When Obama's ATF tried go after the ammunition industry by using an obscure rule to reclassify a component needed to make gun powder, we were the first organization to demand Congressional action. We were so fast that by the time other organizations were talking about the proposed rule change, we had already gotten Congress to pressure the ATF into standing down.
When Obama and his administration tried to ban one of the most popular types of ammunition, we were the first organization to bombard Congress with demands to stop the ATF in its tracks. Yes, we responded to this issue faster than even the NRA. And Rep. Jenkins took notice. He was one of the leading Members of Congress speaking out against the ATF's ammo ban and thanks to his dedication to the 2nd Amendment, the Obama administration ultimately stood down.
Barack Obama may be gone, but the anti-gun hoplophobes he appointed are still there and are implementing the anti-gun policies he ordered. Once again, Rep. Jenkins is leading the charge to once again send an Obama-era policy to the ash bin of history.
The Founders gave you the 2nd Amendment to ensure that a tyrannical government would never be able to take hold in America. But they also gave you the 1st Amendment so that you could use your voice and your vote to stop tyranny before taking up arms would be necessary.
Barack Obama's leftover lackeys are still implementing his anti-gun agenda. Only an act of Congress can roll back Obama's last remaining gun registry and only you can force this issue to the front of the legislative agenda!
