After any school shooting, there are always calls from the Left to "do something," even when they know that the "somethings" they are demanding would have done NOTHING to stop the tragedy.
Yesterday, a 17-year-old student walked into his school in Santa Fe, Texas armed with a revolver, shotgun, and homemade explosives. The guns weren't his. They belonged to his father and he stole them. He was not a troubled teen and, as far as we know, did not have an list of run-ins with police the way the parkland shooter did.
And yet, Democrats are claiming they have the answer: giving the Federal government the power to confiscate Americans' firearms.
And what's worse is they have almost all the Republicans they need to pass it!
They want to create a Federal "red flag" law that would allow family members, neighbors, friends, and community members to turn gun owners into police.
Police would then use this hearsay to disarm American gun owners without even having to charge them with a crime.
It is really hard for the Federal government to disarm Americans. That is on purpose. In order for someone to lose their 2nd Amendment rights, they have to be (1) convicted of a felony or violent misdemeanor, (2) adjudicated mentally defective, (3) involuntarily admitted to a mental institution, (4) or dishonorably discharged from the military.
This new plan being pushed by Michigan Representatives Debbie Dingell (D) and Fred Upton (R) -- yes, the plan has a Republican lead co-sponsor. It would add a new justification for disarmament: hearsay.
I've seen first hand how laws like this are abused. My great-uncle went through a divorce and his spiteful wife filed a restraining order against him. The judge ordered police to seize all his guns. When the assets were split up, the judge gave the wife the guns and she promptly sole them out of spite. All because of hearsay.
Already this year, more than a dozen Republicans have signed onto the Left's assault weapon ban. Two dozen have signed onto the plan to disarm millions of Americans between the ages of 18- and 20-years old.
Now, this new Federal gun confiscation bill is being pushed as the "compromise." It must be stopped!
Whenever there is a tragedy like this, gun control advocates say that gun owners need to compromise. But a compromise requires a give-and-take. Give up something and get something in return.
But that's not what we're talking about here.
In the minds of the gun grabbers, the "compromise" is that we will have to give up some of our guns and not all of them.
That is how every single gun control push goes. Over the years, they have demanded background checks, gun bans, ammunition restrictions, and every time, we were told to count our lucky stars that we got to keep our firearms at all.
Now, they're not even pretending anymore. Now, they're openly pushing to create a nationwide gun confiscation program.
Most Republicans in office are cowards. They are willing to say and do anything to get re-elected. This year, they actually believe they need to push gun control to win.
It really is now or never. If this plan goes through and a Federal gun confiscation program is created, there will be no coming back.
Sincerely,
Max McGuire
