For months, we have worked with tens of thousands of you to force Congress to cancel the August recess. The argument was simple: Congress had not earned a vacation. With hundreds of bills and nominations stalled, we bombarded Congress with millions of FaxBlasts threatening to remove any Congressman or Senator who took their vacation.
We forced Mitch McConnell to cave. He cancelled practically all of the August recess and ordered Congress to start working for their constituents.
But after the press conference ended, McConnell went on with business as usual. He sent Congress on a three day weekend and is refusing to stop Democrats from obstructing everything. Under the current Senate rules, Democrats can demand 30 hours of debate on each and every nominee. There are over 300 nominees that they have been obstructing. Back to back, it would take over 9,000 hours (375 days) to confirm every nominee.
But that is a best case scenario. The fact of the matter is it takes much longer because Congress has other work to accomplish.
There were three district court judges put to a vote this week. Their names were introduced on May 24 and Democrats used every tool at their disposal to delay the final cloture votes. After all of the delay and obstruction, they were finally put to a vote on June 5. Chuck Schumer made it take 13 days to confirm just three nominees, and when they finally did get their vote, they each got more than 80 votes. They're not controversial. Democrats just want to block everything.
At this pace, it would take Congress 4 years to confirm all of Trump's nominees. This is shameful.
We forced the GOP leadership to reluctantly cancel their vacation. Now it is time to force them to finish this!
When Trump took office, there were 108 judicial vacancies. Chuck Schumer's obstruction has allowed that number to grow to 170. Add in the executive branch nominations and the number easily surpasses 300.
The Supreme Court is set to adjourn for the year at the end of this month. If Justice Anthony Kennedy is going to retire -- which the rumors suggest he might -- he will announce it then. Schumer has promised to grind everything to a halt if that happens.
The fact of the matter is that judges are dying and retiring faster than the Senate can confirm them. We have a chance to change the judiciary for generations to come and restore America to its guiding constitutional principles. But that will never happen if Democrats are allowed to delay every single nominee.
Senator James Lankford (R-OK) has introduced a measure which would pull the rug out from under Democrats and start pushing Pres. Trump's nominees through. His resolution would still allow for 30 hours of debate for Cabinet, Supreme Court, Appeals Court nominees, but it would reduce the debate time for District Judges to just two hours and non-Cabinet executive nominees to eight hours.
This is a must-pass bill. But right now, McConnell doesn't think it's necessary. He's perfectly happy with squandering this once in a lifetime opportunity to take this country back. And that is a huge problem.
We forced McConnell and the GOP to cancel their vacation. Now it is time to force them to pass the Lankford resolution and take away the left's ability to run out the clock.
Trump demanded that Congress pick up the pace and the best they could do was move three nominations in two weeks...
We cannot afford to spend two weeks on every three nominees. It is just flat-out unacceptable.
The Democrats are doing this on purpose. They know if they can run out the clock, they'll be able to block Trump permanently if they retake Congress.
For the sake of the Republic, they must be stopped!
