These are shocking numbers, even for the Left. Right now, there are 63 House of Representatives races that Democrats believe they can be competitive in this November. Out of those 63 Democrat candidates, only one supports the 2nd Amendment. He is running in West Virginia and he knows that if he didn't support the 2nd Amendment, those people would run him out of town on a rail.
But the number is still startling. Practically every Democrat candidate running for Congress has adopted radical anti-gun positions.
Now is the perfect time for Congress to start passing pro-gun reforms that not only protect the 2nd Amendment, but expand its scope for future generations. There are a number of bills that would do just that. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, for example, would grant nationwide reciprocity to the 17.25 million Americans with licenses to carry.
But as the Democrats move to the left on gun rights, so are the vulnerable Republicans. They are terrified of losing their power so they are actually surrendering on the gun rights issue. Don't believe me?
Rep. John Katko received an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association in 2016. He ended up co-sponsoring every pro-gun bill that was introduced in the House. Facing a tough re-election this year, he has flipped to supporting gun control. He now believes that 18- to 21-year-olds should be disarmed and barred from owning guns and he is introducing legislation to make it easier for state and local police to confiscate innocent Americans' guns.
The fact of the matter is that in races across this country, voters will now have to choose between voting for an anti-gun Republican and an anti-gun Democrat.
Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL) used to support the 2nd Amendment. Earlier this year, he admitted that when all is said and done, Americans will need to give up some of their gun rights. Michigan Congressman Mike Bishop used to be a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Back in April, Bishop's campaign website quietly removed the "gun rights" section. Instead, his website now talks about "protecting our kids." Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) has also flipped and agreed to vote for the Dianne Feinstein's semi-automatic weapon ban.
Republicans are caving on the 2nd Amendment and Democrats are moving even farther to the Left.
And now, we have received confirmation that the GOP establishment is going to help vulnerable Republicans by holding a vote on new gun control!
The GOP leadership in Congress believes that the best way to protect their majorities is to swing to the Left. That is why they are working so hard on issues like amnesty and blocking Trump's border wall.
But on guns, they believe they can actually compromise with the Democrats.
Now, I've said it before, but it is important to remember that when you hear someone talk about "compromising" on the 2nd Amendment, they're actually talking about gun control. You see, a compromise is supposed to be where each side gives something up in order to get something in return. When the Left talks about gun control compromises, what they mean is that they will only go after some of the guns (instead of banning all of them).
The GOP is falling right into their trap and the compromise bill they are pushing is more dangerous than anything Obama tried to implement.
Their plan is to pass a so-called "red flag" bill. There have been a few different versions introduced so far. Rep. Katko is introducing one. Reps. Brooks (R-IN) and Upton (R-MI) also introduced H.R. 5717.
Essentially, these plans would open the door and make it easier for law enforcement to confiscate Americans' guns.
There are only a handful of ways you can lose your 2nd Amendment rights in this country. But primarily, they involve committing a crime or being adjudicated mentally defective. The bar is deliberately set very high.
That is how rights work. The 2nd Amendment says the right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed." Our laws deliberately make it hard for government to infringe on them.
This new GOP compromise plan would add a new justification for disarmament: suspicion.
Instead of having to convict a criminal or commit someone to a mental institution, police would be able to suspend someone's 2nd Amendment rights simply for believing they pose a threat. It would then be up to the gun owner to plead his or her case and convince a judge they deserve their rights back.
I live in Colorado and this past year, our state legislature tried to pass a similar law. Thankfully, it fell one vote short of passing. But if it had passed, it would have given the government the power to confiscate a citizen's guns and suspend their constitutional right for up to 12 months without even needing to charge them with a crime.
It's terrifying.
Now, Congressional Republicans want to do this at a national level. They believe stabbing gun owners in the back is the only way to win re-election.
They must be stopped!
As we have previously reported, the GOP leadership has given the green light for a gun confiscation vote before the midterm elections. Right now, they are just working out the details in the bills and figuring out a good time to betray American gun owners...
It says a lot about a "public servant" that they would be willing to violate millions of Americans' constitutional rights all for a chance at holding onto power for another two or six years.
But that is all these people care about. Sure, there are good Conservative Congressman and Senators who genuinely care about the issues. But there still are dozens of spineless Congressmen and Senators only interested in preserving their own power.
They were originally looking to vote on this compromise gun control package back in May. Do you know what stopped them?
YOU.
You and tens of thousands of other patriots raised your voices and forced the GOP to back down. But like clockwork, they are at it again, looking an opening to sell out American gun owners.
Ronald Reagan famously said that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. That it is why it is so important to never let your guard down.
The best thing these anti-gun cowards could hope for is your silence. Please, don't give it to them...
