Breaking: GOP leaders are working tirelessly to sneak amendments into the Homeland Security spending bill to block the border wall from actually getting built!
When President Trump attacked Chuck and Nancy's open border dreams during their Oval Office meeting this week, Establishment Republicans were furious. Their whole plan was for Trump to cave to the Left's demands and give up on the border wall project.
Trump decided to go his own way. Not only did he reveal the Democrats for what they are, but he looked right into the camera and told the American people that he would be proud to initiate a partial government shutdown in order to protect the American people from crime, drugs, and disease.
Republicans started to panic. They had been working on a surrender package that would have blocked the border wall from ever being built. They had expected Trump to cave.
Now, President Trump is demanding full border wall funding or else he will veto whatever Congress sends him.
News broke this morning that Paul Ryan is "considering" legislation to approve 5 billion for border security. But once again, Ryan's office is trying to slip in amendments to block the border wall from actualy being built!
In other words, the White House would get its funding but wouldn't be allowed to use it to start erecting the border wall sections.
Out of all of Paul Ryan's open border and amnesty ambitions, this is his biggest 'success.' For the last two years, Paul Ryan has introduced budget bills that explicitly prohibit border wall construction.
Even though the Department of Homeland Security has tested and approved new impenetrable border wall designs, the budgets from the last two years have outlawed those designs entirely. So even though Congress approved 1.6 billion last year, NONE of it went to actual walls. Trump was allowed to repair and expand the existing fence designs, but couldn't do anything new.
This is what Ryan slipped into last year's bill:
"The [border barrier funding] amounts... shall only be available for operationally effective designs deployed as of the date of the Consolidated Appropriations Act... such as currently deployed steel bollard designs, that prioritize agent safety."
What that means is that even if President Trump was able to find the funding for the wall, he would only be able to use the old border fence designs. That is exactly what happened. While the Trump administration was able to approve a couple dozen miles of new border barrier projects this past year, they were forced -- by law -- to use the outdated bollard and levee fence designs.
You know, the designs that are so weak that even toddlers and school children are able to get through... We literally saw illegal aliens this week pushing an infant child through a hole under the border fence.
Paul Ryan's plan is to slip this amendment into the Homeland Security Appropriations Act again. He wants to leave office knowing that he permanently blocked the wall from ever being built.
And the GOP thinks they can get away with it!
Paul Ryan is sneaking one sentence into the bill, but this one sentence has the power to prevent the border wall from ever being built.
Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX), the Congressman who wants to use the border wall funding to increase foreign aid to Central America instead, is introducing another amendment to essentially kill the border wall. His amendment prohibits funding from going to border wall construction anywhere "rough terrain, natural barriers, and the remoteness of a location render a wall or other structure impractical and ineffective."
In other words, his amendment would guarantee that hundreds of miles of the border remain wide open. Look at the image above. That is what the border fence looks like right now. It ends abruptly in the middle of nowhere, allowing illegal aliens to simply walk around it. Hurd's amendment would guarantee that it stays that way.
President Trump has promised to use the Pentagon's funding to finish the wall as a national security project if Congress doesn't approve the plan. So, Republicans are working with Democrat Ruben Gallego (AZ) to push through an amendment prohibiting the Army Corps of Engineers from ever working on the border wall.
President Trump is going to get his vote on border security funding, but Paul Ryan and the other GOP cowards are working overtime to water it down as much as possible.
You CANNOT let that happen!
The President is already ordering the Executive branch to prepare for a government shutdown. He is not bluffing.
And yet, instead of simply approving the 5 billion for border wall construction, the GOP is trying to do the opposite. Once again, Ryan is trying to stop the wall from ever being built.
The GOP knows that with Democrats taking control of the House, they only have to stall for 8 more days. If they can stop the wall from getting funded before the December 21, then Pelosi can permanently block the project.
