There it is. The demand we have been waiting for. Early Sunday morning, Trump released a statement.
"Glad to see how hard Republicans are fighting for our Military and Safety at the Border. The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked. If stalemate continues, Republicans should go to 51% (Nuclear Option) and vote on real, long term budget, no C.R.'s!"
The Democrats played their hand. They thought they would be able to force the GOP into accepting their amnesty demands. But they didn't count on President Trump standing firm and they certainly didn't count on him demanding Congress invoke the nuclear option!
Typically, legislation requires 60 votes to make it to a final vote in the senate. This is called a cloture vote. Basically, 2/3 of the Senators need to agree that they have debated an issue enough. If they don't, then Congress technically would continue to debate a bill forever. This is how a filibuster works.
This is why it's so important. If the GOP uses the nuclear option, then not only will Democrats be powerless to defund the government, but they would also be powerless to block bills on the 2nd Amendment, immigration reform, or any number of other issues.
This would eliminate the Democrats' ability to block things from getting done in the Senate.
Mitch McConnell, however, has promised to never to use the nuclear option. He had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into using it for the Supreme Court. Otherwise, instead of having Neil Gorsuch on the bench, we would have had another liberal.
President Trump has dropped the hammer. He is demanding that Congress go nuclear. But he needs you to put the pressure on as well!
This is our chance to take back this country. If Congress goes nuclear, we will finally have the power to pass a Conservative agenda.
Even if RINOs like Flake or McCain try to block conservative bills, we could still turn to the 10 Senate Democrats who are up for re-election in states that Trump won by an average of 18%. As we saw this past week, five Senate Democrats broke with Schumer to try to prevent a government shutdown.
Does anyone really think that Claire McCaskill could win Missouri or Joe Manchin could win West Virginia this year if they vote against something like the 2nd Amendment? Of course not.
We have this one chance to go nuclear and have all the blame rest on the Democrats. Not only would that ensure that military families get their paychecks, but we would also get to have exactly what we want on immigration, the 2nd Amendment, national security, entitlements, and every other issue.
The time to fight is now!
