For three years, we have been fighting against the Deep State and their attempts to remove Donald Trump from office and reverse the 2016 election.
By now, there is no longer any debate. Anti-Trump officials within the FBI and intelligence agencies abused their power to launch surveillance operations against members of Trump's campaign team. They did that specifically to spy on the campaign.
And, when their spying turned up no evidence of collusion, they broke the law to allow them to continue their surveillance operation.
But first, let's take a step back and explain how they did this. First and foremost, you have a right to privacy. The 5th Amendment protects your right to be secure in your person and effects. What that means is that the government cannot seize your documents or spy on you without a warrant.
There is a special kind of warrant issued by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that allows the government to secretly spy on Americans believed to be working on behalf of a foreign country. Almost all of these surveillance warrants get approved, but they are only temporary. The FBI is required to come back to the court for an extension and in order to get one, they have to prove that their original suspicions have been verified. Basically, they have to present the Court with evidence that their surveillance is worthwhile.
James Comey and his team violated all of these requirements. Not only did they seek the initial warrant on the flimsiest of allegations, but they lied to the Court to get their warrants extended. They knew that the Trump officials they were surveilling were innocent, but lied to the FISA Court and claimed otherwise.
The real question is if the Deep State was willing to break the law and trample on a Presidential candidate's Constitutional rights, what do you think they are doing on a day-to-day basis to the rest of us?
We have a chance to put a stop to all of this. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act -- which sets up this whole process -- expires in mid-March. It is up to Congress to re-authorize it.
Nancy Pelosi sees nothing wrong with the way the FBI and Deep State treated Trump and his team. She applauded their lawlessness. Not surprisingly, she is now pushing for a status-quo FISA renewal. What that means is that the law that the Deep State used to try to take down President Trump would be reauthorized as-is, with no changes.
Luckily, one brave Democrat -- yes, you read that correctly, is standing up and pushing back!
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) (shown above) is no conservative. On most issues, she is about as far left as they come. But on the FISA process, she sees how dangerous it is to give government officials the power to spy on innocent Americans.
Democrats had hoped they would be able to push through their status-quo FISA bill last week. But Lofgren stood up and blocked the bill by demanding a debate on amendments.
Many of her amendments are common sense. First off, her bill would create a Friend of the Court office that would challenge the FBI and DOJ when they seek a surveillance warrant. Right now, the government is the only party present in these hearings. Lofgren's amendment would create a legal office whose sole responsibility was to argue on behalf of the American people.
Her amendments would also make it illegal for the Federal government to secretly seize phone records to spy on Americans. Remember, this is what Adam Schiff is accused of doing when he obtained Republicans' cell phone records... It would also make it illegal for the government to force tech companies to build "backdoors" to allow the FBI to spy on Americans, whenever they want...
All of this is common sense and this is exactly what Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and other Freedom Caucus members have advocated for years.
But Pelosi and the Democrats are pushing back. Pelosi wants to move forward with the bill that Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler wrote together. That's right, the very Democrats accused of covering up FISA abuse and abusing the surveillance law themselves are going to be the ones who get to write the new law...
I don't think so!
But Pelosi thinks she has the GOP over a barrel. If she can pass her as-is FISA bill, she can force the Senate to do the same. She knows that the GOPers like Lindsey Graham aren't won't just let the FISA law expire. So, like so many other issues, Pelosi is going to hold our country's national security hostage to try to get what she wants...
This is our chance. This is our one opportunity to cut the Deep State down to size and prevent them from ever again being able to weaponize the FISA process against Trump or any other American.
And thank goodness, there is at least one Democrat willing to stand up to Pelosi.
But that won't be enough. Lofgren's protest slowed Pelosi down, but she can't permanently block the Speaker from advancing the FISA bill.
That is where YOU come in!
The clock is ticking. Pelosi wants to force a vote on the Schiff-Nadler FISA renewal bill this week. And as of today, even with Lofgren and the Republicans' protests, she appears to have the votes to push it through.
The only way to stop this is to get loud right now!
You need to rise up and DEMAND that Republicans and Democrats alike put a stop to these FISA abuses and prevent the government from ever being able to spy on Americans like this again. But under no circumstances can they renew the law as-is!
Benjamin Franklin famously said that any people who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
We can do this. We can put a stop to this Deep State lawlessness and protect the rights of Americans, all at the same time.
But you need to fight back right now!
It all comes down to this...
