The picture above is pretty shocking. It was taken yesterday at the US-Mexico border near Tijuana. On the left, you can see a few hundred migrants gathering to figure out how to sneak into the United States. And on the right side of the border fence? Two border patrol agents. That's it.
At the start of the week, we reported that 85 caravan migrants had arrived at the border. The next day, it had grown to almost 500 illegal migrants. We woke up today and the count is now over 2,200, and growing by the minute. Chartered buses are carrying the caravan through Mexico and there are at least ten thousand still on the way.
President Trump called the GOP leadership to the White House yesterday for an emergency meeting. There, the President made his demand: full border wall funding or else he will shut down the government.
One Senator in attendance told Trump to be reasonable and admit that the border wall isn't going to get funded this year.
But this Mitch McConnell comment really takes the cake.
"I can't imagine, with all the things that we have to do here to wrap up this Congress, that we would revisit immigration. But who knows?"
The caravan is literally pounding at the gates and the GOP wants to do absolutely nothing.
Chuck Schumer and the Democrats want to give him 1.6 billion for border security, with only a small fraction of that being usable for new wall construction. Trump would be allowed to upgrade existing fencing, but the new border wall designs would be strictly off limits.
This is quite possibly the last time border wall funding will ever be able to pass Congress and the Republican leadership want to settle for next to nothing.
We saw this in the mid-2000s. Republicans passed the Secure Fence Act and the minute the Democrats took over power in 2006, they blocked the funding from being appropriated. Pelosi is literally promising to do it again once she takes over power in January.
Thousands of caravan migrants are gathering at the border to force their way into the US. They busted through the border to get into Guatemala and Mexico, now they're trying to invade our country.
Not only has Congress refused to approve border wall construction, but they have deliberately tied Border Patrol's hands to stop them from actually securing the border.
President Trump is done watching the GOP surrender on immigration. He dropped the hammer yesterday and demanded border wall funding. But now, he needs your help to hold Congress' feet to the fire and force the vote!
The situation is dire. We have never been so close to defeat.
The caravan is at the gates and the GOPers are doing everything in their power to block a border security and border wall bill from reaching President Trump's desk. They want to run out the clock.
Between now and when Pelosi takes over, the GOP is only planning on keeping Congress in session for 12 days. With everything going on, they believe they deserve even more vacation time...
It's literally now or never. The President is making his push for full border wall funding and he needs your help before it's too late.
