Many Congressional Republicans are cowards. Not all of them, of course, but many are. They make promise after promise and then do everything they can to avoid having to fulfill them. That is why so many in the GOP wanted Clinton to win.
On gun rights, every single Republican in Congress -- and even some Democrats -- ran on promises to protect and defend the 2nd Amendment. Yet, while they sit on their hands, innocent Americans continue to be victimized by heinous unconstitutional anti-gun laws.
The 2nd Amendment protects a right to bear arms. The Supreme Court has ruled in Heller that the term "bear arms" means "carry guns." And yet, in nine of the bluest states, citizens aren't allowed to exercise this right. They can certainly apply for a permit, but liberals have made it impossible for them to be approved.
Take Los Angeles as an example. This is a city of over ten million people. Want to guess how many concealed carry permit holders there are? Only 197. It's astonishing. But what is even more amazing is that liberals say this is perfectly fine. They act like everyone who deserves the right to defend themselves already has it.
Now let's look at Washington DC, a city with not even a million people in it. In September of 2017, do you know how many people applied for a concealed carry permit in DC? One one. Just one person applied that month. In October, the District Court ruled that DC's concealed carry restrictions were unconstitutional.
Since that ruling, more than 500 people have applied for permits. In just three months, a tiny city like DC has almost three times as many new concealed carry permit holders as Los Angeles has. This is an abomination.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act fixes this permanently. Not only would people be allowed to carry across state lines, but Californians and others living in anti-gun states would be able to bypass their state government entirely and get a valid permit to carry a firearm nationwide!
This works because of how the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is written. It says that anyone who has a legal carry permit "issued by a state" can use that permit to carry across the country. That means that it doesn't have to be issued by their home state to be valid nationwide.
So if there is a law-abiding resident of New Jersey who wants to defend himself, instead of hoping that NJ will recognize their right, they can instead apply for a non-resident permit from a state like New Hampshire or Florida. The best part? New Jersey would have to honor it.
I used to live in New Jersey and had to get a Utah non-resident carry permit so that I could defend myself when I used to work in Philadelphia. On my way home, I would have to stop right before the Delaware River and not only disarm, but lock my gun in the trunk before driving into crime plagued Camden or Trenton. All because states like New Jersey, New York, Maryland, California, Massachusetts, and Hawaii don't honor the 2nd Amendment.
With this legislation, we are talking about freeing millions of Americans and restoring their God-given right to self-defense.
Remember how I said that many in the GOP are cowards? They promised to put this bill onto President Trump's desk but now, they are content with letting it die. Mitch McConnell won't schedule a final vote and Paul Ryan is refusing to attach it to a must-pass bill in order to force the issue.
Here is what these cowards need to remember: a right delayed is a right denied, and if they won't fully pass this common-sense bill, then they are just as bad as the Left!
I have spoken with a number of 2nd Amendment attorneys on this and they've told me that gun rights groups are about to make a major push demanding a January vote on this bill. They are mobilizing millions of Conservatives to bombard Congress and demand that they put this legislation onto President Trump's desk.
One of the first bills that Congress passed in 2017 was the repeal of Barack Obama's social security gun ban. Since then? Nothing.
For eight long years, we were forced to go on defense and fight against seemingly daily assaults on our 2nd Amendment rights. Now that we control Congress, the White House, and even the Supreme Court, we should be seeing pro-gun victories everywhere we turn.
We had major court rulings that overturned DC's unconstitutional gun laws. President Trump has got to work overturning Obama's horrible anti-gun orders. Yet Congress has done next to nothing. Every time this bill came up for a vote, the GOP found a reason to delay it.
They think they can pass one bill and that will be enough to get your support. They think that will be enough to get you to continue donating and voting for them.
It is your obligation to prove them wrong. For the millions of Americans who have never known the right to bear arms, you must force Congress to act! Not in a year... not in a few months... NOW!
