When the United Nations decided to condemn the United States last month, Pres. Trump issued a warning: any country that stands against us will lose its funding.
Congressional Republicans and Democrats told the White House they weren't comfortable with all of the cuts Trump was making to the United Nations.
The spending bills that are set to be voted on next week even try to restore much of the funding that Trump cut off.
What did the President do in response? He froze another 125M in donations to a United Nations refugee program and threatened to cut off even more.
Democrats are furious. That funding was supposed to go to the Palestinian government. After they pulled out of negotiations with Israel, and pushed for UN action against the United States, Trump decided to pull the plug.
When Trump originally threatened to cut off funding to countries that tried to smack down the US in the United Nations, Democrats laughed and said it was impossible. Now that Trump is making good on those threats, they are rallying with Establishment Republicans to stop him!
Reps. David Price (D-NC), Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Betty McCollum (D-MN),and Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) (shown above) all sit on committees that handle foreign aid appropriations. They aren't household names, but they help decide what the US spends its money on overseas.
They are launching a full press to make Congress pass a budget forcing the President to restore this funding.
Don't think they'll be able to succeed? They already are...
In the budget bill that Congress must pass in the next week, they have successfully restored funding to the United Nations climate agenda. Republican Senators Graham, Alexander, and Collins helped make that one happen. On top of that, the Senate Appropriations Committee rejected President Trump's demand to cut off international aid to America's enemies, forcing Trump to dole out everything Obama promised them.
These are the fights that go on behind the scenes. They don't make the evening news, but they are happening.
Since these betrayals don't make it onto the news, most people have no idea what is going on. If they don't know, then they don't know they need to fight back and these horrible amendments end up making it into law.
But you know. You know how Democrats and even some Republicans are trying to undermine President Trump and pull the rug out from under him. Because you know, you have a duty to do something about it!
Trump is cutting off UN funding left and right, but if these Democrats get their way, they could force all of the funding promises from the Obama years to instantly snap-back.
Don't let them roll back all of this progress! Fight back!
