Last week, we launched a major campaign to pressure the GOP leadership into making good on its promise and passing the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. This is the legislation that would allow people with a valid concealed carry permit from one state to use it to carry in every state. Yes, that includes non-resident permits as well.
So not only would Americans in pro-gun states be allowed to exercise their right to bear arms across the country, but people who live in anti-gun states like New Jersey and California would finally have a pathway to carry nationwide -- including in their home state!
We know that the votes are there to pass the bill in the House. We also know that there are ten Senate Democrats up for re-election in states that Trump won. The number actually jumps to 11 if you include Doug Jones, the new Democrat from the pro-gun state of Alabama. Some of them hail from states Trump won by 20, 30, even 40+ percent.
Scheduling a vote is common sense. These vulnerable Democrats need to make a choice. Do they vote for the second amendment or do they vote against their constituents?
Does anyone actually think that a Democrat Senator up for re-election in Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Missouri, or Alabama would dare vote against the right to bear arms?
So far, they have been allowed to skate by without going on the record.
I am writing to tell you that thanks to your activism and pressure, they will be forced to vote. We have just learned that the GOP leadership has caved and will hold a new vote on the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act!
The date is being scheduled. Now, it is time to put the pressure on Congress and DEMAND that they pass it!
This is the moment we have been waiting for.
Last year, the House passed a watered down version of this bill. At the last moment, the leadership attached a number of gun control proposals in order to secure the votes of moderate Republicans.
Then, we were betrayed. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell stripped the gun control measures from the legislation and then added it to the yearly spending bill in order to secure Democrat votes. Then, they announced that reciprocity was dead.
We have put tremendous pressure on Republicans and Democrats alike to hold a new vote on this bill. Today, we are able to confirm that the Congressional leadership has agreed to do just that. A vote will be held this summer on the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.
For the first time, a pathway to passage has been revealed.
The votes were there in the House last year. Since then, there have been a number of pro-2nd Amendment Republicans who have flipped and decided to back the Left's gun control proposals. So we cannot take anything for granted.
In the Senate, we need every Republican and most of the vulnerable Democrats up for re-election in states Trump won. It is an uphill battle, for sure, but we have a real chance to push this bill across the finish line.
This is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity to restore the right to keep and bear arms for all Americans. Right now, 25% of all Americans live in states that openly prohibit them from carrying firearms in public for self defense. In states like New Jersey, New York, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Hawaii, it is literally impossible to get a concealed weapons permit unless you're sleeping with a judge. Other states like Illinois flat-out refuse to accept carry permits from other states.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would change all of that. Currently, there are at least 17 million Americans who hold concealed carry permits. That number would be much higher if gun owners in anti-gun states were allowed to exercise their right to bear arms as well. This bill would allow these law-abiding Americans -- who are statistically more law-abiding than police officers -- to legally carry their firearms nationwide.
Literally, concealed carriers commit fewer crimes, on average, than law enforcement officers. Police officers are allowed to carry in all fifty states. It is time to afford that same right to American citizens!
This is the biggest civil rights bill to come along in a generation. Literally, entire generations have lived and died with their God-given right to bear arms wholly restricted.
The right to bear arms is universal. It belongs to all Americans in all states. For far too long, a minority of liberal states have been allowed to violate this sacred right without consequence.
Just this past year, Washington D.C. lost its appeal and were forced to start accepting concealed carry applications and approving everyone who qualified. Applications went up ten-fold. If this legislation passes, millions of more Americans will see their rights restored. That is worth fighting for.
We now have the pathway to get this legislation signed. Now it is up to you to double down on the pressure and force Congress to pass it!
