We caught them.
The horrible bill that the GOP "negotiated" to secure a pathetic 55 miles of new border fence? Well, it just got a whole lot worse...
The Democrats are sneaking in what are called "poison pill" amendments. Basically, these are provisions that are just one or two sentences long and are designed to undermine the entire border wall project.
So, even with this pittance of funding, the Democrats are still trying to torpedo the whole thing! And the GOP is so eager to just cave on the whole border wall issue that they are going to pass it anyway!
We have found a bunch of poison pills that the Left added to the immigration bill. They are really bad.
The first one is completely confirmed. It is called the Mayor's Veto. The provision was added by Democrats and would allow local mayors to veto border wall construction inside of their towns. Democrats want to kill the entire border project by giving leftist local mayors the power to block it entirely!
But that isn't even the worst part. The "compromise" immigration bill limits where a border fence can be built. One of the off-limit areas is the National Butterfly Center, a 100-acre parcel of land that is a butterfly sanctuary. Butterflies can fly through the fence designs. This isn't about saving insects. It is simply about keeping the border as open as possible!
Another provision prohibits Trump from deploying any of the new border wall prototype designs. Only pre-existing fence designs -- the ones that are so porous, even toddlers can slip through them -- are permitted.
While Dems and Republicans claim there isn't enough funding for a border wall, they are increasing foreign aid to Central and South America by 3.1 billion (more than twice the amount they're allowing for the wall).
And as if this wasn't bad enough, the final bill cuts the number of immigration detention beds by 9,000. That means that thousands of illegal alien criminals will be released from jail if this legislation passes.
President Trump said yesterday that he was going to go through the bill and look for any "landmines." We did the same and there are plenty of landmines. This bill is unacceptable!
You CANNOT allow the GOP to push this through!
President Trump has already said that he will be supplementing whatever funding Congress approves. He has found billions of discretionary funds that he can legally redirect to the border wall project, without even needing to declare an emergency.
But if Congress passes this bill, with all of these poison pill amendments and landmine limitations, there's no coming back.
Illegal aliens will be released from jail. ICE will be blocked from arresting illegal aliens in the future without also releasing illegals from prison. Trump will be blocked from building the border wall in the most important places. And as it stands right now, liberal local mayors would get the power to veto border wall construction if it passes through their town.
The GOP wants to pass the bill as is and force President Trump to sign it.
If that happens, the border wall project will be doomed, even if President Trump manages to find the funding on his own.
You CANNOT allow the Republicans to push this through!
