For the past two years, Paul Ryan has done nothing but stand in the way of the border wall. Not only did he refuse to fund the wall project, but he struck deals to prohibit border wall construction entirely (even if Trump found the funds).
Paul Ryan is retiring at the end of this year. Many believe that his successor will be current-House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. The GOP leadership is already preparing to hand over the reins to McCarthy. And he is ready to hit the ground running.
Today, Kevin McCarthy is touring the southern border region. He just announced that he will be filing the Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act.
This legislation is EVERYTHING that we have been pushing for!
"The American people want us to build the wall and enforce the law," McCarthy explains. "Maintaining strong borders is one of the basic responsibilities of any nation. For too long, America has failed in this responsibility."
McCarthy's bill would fully fund the border wall project. Forget about the 1.6 billion that the Senate was going to approve. The legislation appropriates the full 23 billion needed to finish the border wall. Not in multiple installments, either, and not subject to future Congressional approval. The legislation would provide full, immediate, and protected border wall funding.
But it goes even further than that. This legislation also includes Kate's Law, the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (a ban on sanctuary cities), the Criminal Alien Gang Removal Act, and two resolutions supporting ICE and condemning illegal alien voting.
And McCarthy's bill does NOT include any amnesty, whatsoever.
A lot of times, Members of Congress will attach misleading titles to pieces of legislation, but the Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act is self-explanatory: it will fund the wall and fully enforce our immigration laws.
Paul Ryan is already trying to temper expectations, suggesting that there will need to be some amnesty included in order for the bill to pass. Right after he announced his retirement, Ryan promised liberal immigration groups that he would push through amnesty before he leaves office.
Right now, President Trump is scrounging together whatever funding he can to try to secure the border. After an entire year of moving funds around, Trump was able to start constructing four miles of border wall in Texas. Just four miles... Across the rest of the border, workers are erecting dozens of miles of border walls and fences.
This simply isn't good enough. Trump is trying all he can, but Congress withheld the funding and deliberately made it hard to move forward with the project.
Kevin McCarthy's Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act would change that. It would give the President all of the funding he needs and finally crack down on sanctuary cities and illegal alien criminals... all without giving even one inch towards the amnesty.
The bill is being introduced this week. Now it is up to YOU to force it through!
This shouldn't be a compromise. For years, establishment Republicans and Democrats have tried to hold our border security hostage in exchange for massive amnesty for illegal aliens.
Just think about that. In order to keep Americans safe, they want us to cave and give amnesty (and citizenship) to criminals who have been breaking the law for decades. Thousands of Americans are victimized at the hands of illegal immigrants every year. To the left, they are just pawns, necessary sacrifices in order to move the amnesty agenda forward. It's shameful.
But with Paul Ryan heading for the exits, the Republican leadership finally has the backbone to do what is necessary to protect the country.
Full border wall funding... Kate's law, to punish illegal alien repeat criminals... full defunding of sanctuary cities... and a bill to give Border Patrol the power to quickly deport illegal alien gang members.
This is everything we have been pushing for.
Now, it really is up to us to get this across the finish line!
Sincerely,
Joe Otto
