Time is running out for Congress to pass the biggest pro-gun bill ever!
Since President Trump took office, Congress has only sent one pro-gun to his desk for signature. It was a Congressional Review Act resolution overturning Barack Obama’s Social Security gun ban executive order.
Since then, Congress has passed nothing to protect or expand our 2nd Amendment rights. Two men are responsible: Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell.
Paul Ryan did the minimum necessary to make it look like the House was taking action to protect the 2nd Amendment. Ryan held a vote on the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act back in 2017. He added a key gun control provision -- the Fix NICS Act -- in order to get moderate Republicans on board. But then, when no one was watching, Paul Ryan stripped the gun rights provision from the bill and pushed through the gun control part alone.
The GOP presented this as a compromise, but they couldn't even go a week without stabbing you in the back...
When the bill reached the Senate, it was read twice aloud and then referred to the Judiciary Committee. Then... nothing happened. Mitch McConnell has total power to decide which bills receive a vote. On his order, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has now collected dust in th Senate for over a year...
This truly is the biggest pro-gun legislation ever introduced in Congress. Under the bill, full nationwide carry rights would be extended to anyone who is licensed or permitted to carry a firearm in a state. Original drafts of the bill required people to have a carry permit from their home state, but that was changed. As the bill is written now, full nationwide reciprocity would be extended to non-resident carry permits as well as people who live in permitless/constitutional carry states.
This bill would tear down more than a century of anti-gun state laws across this country. Carry ban states like California, New York, New Jersey, or Maryland would no longer be allowed to deny residents or out-of-state visitors their right to self defense.
With Congress about to change hands, there is one last push to force the GOP to pass this common sense gun rights bill before it's too late!
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (HR.38) is about to die. On January 3, the next class of Congressmen and Senators will be sworn in. The 115th Congress will officially end and the 116th Congress will begin with Democrats controlling the House. When this happens, all pending legislation will be archived and removed from consideration.
I used to live in New Jersey. There, local police and judges reject practically all concealed carry applications. It is impossible for an average citizen to exercise their rights outside their homes. Like many New Jerseyans, I got a non-resident carry permit from the State of Utah to allow me to carry my firearm when traveling around the country.
Today, I live in Colorado. I have concealed weapons permits issued by both Colorado and Utah. But even with these two permits, I am still only allowed to carry in 37 states. Even though the 2nd Amendment reads that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed, it is impossible for any civilian to carry a firearm in all 50 states. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would change that.
But more importantly, it would restore the 2nd Amendment to the 25% of all Americans who live in states that refuse to issue or honor any carry permits. For the first time, residents living in California, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Delaware would suddenly be able to carry in their home state and nationwide without having to ask their anti-government state and local governments for permission first.
We have 37 days for force this bill through Congress. At the end, the slate will be wiped clean and Democrats will get the power to block this bill indefinitely.
It all comes down to this. The future of the 2nd Amendment will be decided right now. Will you fight for it?
The GOP has spent the past 2 years blocking this bill from reaching Trump's desk. Now, they know they can block it forever if they can stall for just another 5 weeks.
I am reminded of something that Ronald Reagan used to say: Freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction.
I regret to inform you that we are at that point right now. In a month's time, the 2nd Amendment will either be preserved or gutted. It won't be decided by anti-gun Democrats... no, the 2nd Amendment's future will be decided by the supposedly pro-gun Republicans.
