By now, it should be perfectly clear that many Republicans in Congress don’t actually want to protect the 2nd Amendment. They make promise after promise around election time, but then put gun rights on the back burner as soon as they win. But even if they don’t have the backbone to pass pro-gun legislation, the GOP has never dared support gun confiscations... until now.
Lindsey Graham has been promising for weeks to push through a “compromise” gun confiscation bill. We just received word that it is written. Working with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Graham’s Extreme Risk Protection Order bill will give state and local governments the power, funding, and right to confiscate innocent gun owners’ firearms. Instead of creating one nationwide gun confiscation law, the "compromise" is that the GOP will create fifty of them...
No due process... no constitutional protections... This bill would make it open season on American gun owners. Any vengeful ex or angry neighbor would suddenly have the power to turn-in gun owners to have their firearms confiscated.
Lindsey Graham could have passed a Republican Red Flag bill, but said that he wants the package to be "bipartisan." Democrats are now refusing to vote for it unless the package goes even further on gun control... and the GOP is promising to "compromise" even more!
The 2nd Amendment protects your RIGHT to keep and bear arms. In order for the government to suspend that right, they must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that you broke the law or are mentally defective. Like all criminal proceedings, the government carries the burden of proving that someone is unfit to own a gun. That means they have to accuse someone of breaking the law and then allow the accused the opportunity to defend themself.
Graham’s bill would turn that upside down by allowing the government to confiscate someone’s guns before even accusing them of doing something wrong. If a family member, neighbor, or friend tells police that they think a gun owner is dangerous, then that would be enough to get a confiscation order. It would then be up to the disarmed gun owner to hire a lawyer and convince a judge that they aren’t a criminal or mentally ill. Forget about “innocent until proven guilty,” this bill would make all gun owners guilty until proven innocent...
If a judge doesn’t believe them, he or she would have the power to extend the confiscation and disarmament order for up to one year. All without the disarmed gun owner even being charged with a crime. If this becomes nationwide policy, then you will no longer have any 2nd Amendment Rights. Gun ownership will become nothing but a privilege that can be revoked by the government at any time.
This will be abused. Already, we are seeing this happen in states like Maryland. 61-year-old Gary Willis was killed last year when he refused to comply with a spontaneous early-morning gun confiscation raid. He wasn't a criminal or mentally ill. He had gotten into a heated argument with a family member days prior and she reportedly used that state's gun confiscation law to get the upper hand over him. Now he's dead.
Democrats, of course, are over-the-moon excited about this. But the Left thinks they can get the GOP to "compromise" even more.
No, "compromise" doesn't mean that gun owners get anything they want. When it comes to gun control, the Left always demands radical confiscations and bans and the GOP "compromises" to meet them somewhere in the middle. That is exactly what Graham's bill is. The Left wants to confiscate every American's guns, and the idiots in the GOP want to "compromise" to let them confiscate just some people's guns...
Pelosi and Feinstein are now demanding that the GOP cave even more. They want the package to include universal background checks (with a nationwide gun registry), a bill banning semi-automatic firearms (the most popular guns in America), and they want to give the FBI the power to arbitrarily deny background checks and block Americans from purchasing guns.
And instead of walking away from the table, the Republicans are trying to negotiate with these tyrants and hoping to 'meet them halfway'...
Why is this happening? Republicans think they can get away with this. The GOP thinks they can pass the biggest gun confiscation bill ever without losing their power. They saw Democrats win dozens of seats last year and think they can hold onto their political power by pushing "reasonable" gun control.
It is up to you to prove them wrong.
The 2nd Amendment was written precisely because the Founders knew a day like this would come. They knew that it was only a matter of time before politicians tried to eliminate the basic human right to self-defense. They enshrined the right to keep and bear arms into the Constitution specifically to prevent government from ever trying to pass a bill like this.
This is the moment that the Founders feared.
But it is not too late to stop this. Republicans and Democrats are counting on the American people not paying attention. They are hoping that you don't see what they're doing.
You MUST rise up and force them to stand down! Fight back against this gun control push and threaten to remove any Congressman or Senator who dares vote for gun control!
We can stop this, but only if we act fast right now!
