Earlier this July, I told you about how the Obama administration was misusing a law to disarm tens of thousands of retirees, if not more. For a time, it seemed like we had defeated this measure.
Then yesterday, the White House published the details of Barack Obama’s gun control executive order and what do you know… the Social Security gun ban is back on the table!
Obama’s gun grab is no joke! Tell Congress to STOP him from disarming social security beneficiaries!
No, this is not a joke or an exaggeration. The Social Security Administration, just like the Veterans Administration, has been abusing the law to deprive Americans of their 2nd Amendment rights.
You see, the law says that the only two major ways to lose your gun rights are to commit a felony/violent misdemeanor or to be deemed mentally deficient.
For the latter to be true, an individual must have been involuntarily admitted to a mental health facility or be an immediate threat to themselves and others.
All around the country, there are older Americans who need help with finances. There’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes people just aren’t good at keeping up with the bills.
Both the SSA and the VA have been taking the list of people who need help managing their finances and using this as an excuse to “cancel” their gun rights. If someone is on Social Security and needs help with managing their affairs, the SSA deems them mentally deficient and unfit to own a weapon. The White House estimates that the Social Security Administration will start disarming and confiscating guns from 75,000 people a year.
How can they do that? Well, take the case of Navy Veteran John Arnold. A resident of Priest River, Iowa, Mr. Arnold was notified this summer that the VA had determined he was no longer fit to own firearms because he needed help managing his finances. The letter informed him that a VA inspector would be stopping by to confiscate his guns.
Nearly the entire town, including elected officials and some law enforcement, came out to make sure that didn’t happen. It worked. The town was able to get the VA to back down.
This has been a staple of the VA for years and with yesterday’s executive order, Obama is expanding this gun confiscation to social security beneficiaries as well!
Yes, Obama did just announce a gun ban! Tell Congress to stop him before it is too late!
We fought this before and won. We bombarded Congress with faxes this past summer and got the head of the Social Security Administration to back down. Now, Obama is restarting the program and demanding that his administration go after social security beneficiaries.
We are literally all in this together. Whether you are young or old, an assault on one of us is an assault on all of us. Obama believes himself to be a king. How else can you explain his arrogance in rewriting law like this?
What Obama is doing cannot stand!
