Unbelievable… Simply unbelievable…
The Supreme Court just bent over backwards to save Obamacare again.
When the Democrats passed Obamacare years ago, they wrote that only healthcare exchanges “established by the state” would be eligible for subsidies.
Yet in a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court has determined that this phrase is ambiguous and that they therefore have the right to analyze the phrase in context.
Chief Justice John Roberts did this in 2012 when he baffled observers and classified Obamacare’s individual mandate as a “tax” in order to save it.
Well Roberts did the same thing yet again.
The whole system is backwards and rigged. And now do you know what Congress is saying? They’re saying that this is the end. That there’s nothing they can do about it.
Meanwhile, Americans’ premiums and deductibles are higher than ever and their standard of care is worse.
Here’s what Justice Roberts wrote: “In this instance, the context and the structure of the Act compel us to depart from what would otherwise be the most natural reading of the pertinent statutory phrase.”
What he’s saying is that even though the language is plain-as-day, the Court believes that the subsidies should apply to everyone.
In his dissent, Justice Antonin Scalia writes that “words no longer have meaning” and that thanks to the court’s linguistic gymnastics, they own this healthcare law now. It might as well be called SCOTUScare (the acronym for the Supreme Court of the United States).
It is absolutely shameful.
But what is more shameful is that Congress wants to do nothing. For the past months, Republicans have been working on a replacement for Obamacare. A healthcare bill without an individual mandate and one that actually reduces costs.
This emergency fix was going to be pushed through if the Supreme Court ruled against the subsidies. But now that the liberal Justices upheld the law, Republicans are breathing a sigh of relief. They are relieved that now they don’t have to fight to repeal Obamacare.
Seriously? The Federal government is forcing citizens to buy insurance they can’t afford.
These are the people who campaigned on the promise to repeal Obamacare and now that they have political cover, they aren’t going to do anything?
Barack Obama gave a speech today gloating in the Rose Garden. He said that the debate is settled and that it is time for Republicans to just accept the fact that Obamacare is the law of the land.
So we’re just supposed to accept the fact that our healthcare costs are higher than ever?
We’re just supposed to accept the fact that millions of Americans are terrified to get sick – even with insurance – because they can’t afford the deductibles of a hospital visit?
Heck no! Demand that Congress repeal and replace Obamacare!
Absolutely not! What we learned today is that the system is corrupt and will do whatever is necessary to protect this law.
Congress believes they dodged a bullet. John Boehner and Mitch McConnell believe that they can now move on without doing anything.
It’s up to you to prove to them otherwise. It is up to you to take a stand and demand that this horrible law be repealed and replaced with something that is actually Constitutional!
