Dear Conservative,
By now, you have probably heard about the Obama administration's trade of FIVE high ranking Taliban commanders for the last U.S. soldier held hostage in Afghanistan.
First of all, I am happy that the captured Army Sergeant is home safe with his family. Anytime a U.S. soldier is reunited with his family is a good thing. There are many military families who won’t have the opportunity to embrace their loved ones… Bowe Bergdahl has been in Taliban custody for the last five years, albeit under questionable circumstances, and it is nice that he is able to be reunited with his family.
But, there are a lot of things that the media isn't reporting about this "prisoner swap" that raises eyebrows and leaves me just shaking my head... These are crimes committed by the Obama administration that, if proven true, are without a doubt grounds for impeachment!
1. The five Taliban fighters released were the "MVPs" of the terrorist organization. These are men who were directly responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people. This is an organization that harbored al-Qaeda and enabled them to launch the 9-11 attacks. This is an organization that terrorizes villages and launches ambushes against U.S. forces. This is a group that literally murders young girls who just want to go to school and receive an education. In 2008, the Pentagon determined that all five of these terrorists posed a significant security risk to the United States and our allies, and if they were released, they would certainly take up arms against American forces. Which brings me to my next point...
2. The Obama administration claims that the Taliban isn't a terrorist group. Let that sink in for a second. Yesterday during a press conference, Jay Carney told reporters that the Obama administration didn't negotiate with terrorists because the Taliban aren't technically terrorists. It doesn't get much dumber than that... The American people aren't stupid. They know that the Obama administration negotiated with terrorists to get Sgt. Bergdahl released. And with that, the White House violated an age-old policy of not negotiating with terrorists, putting Americans at risk around the world because terrorists now know that they can trade to get their people released. With this one decision, Obama endangered tens of thousands of Americans abroad, not to mention the U.S. soldiers still stationed in the Middle East.
Tell Congress that it MUST investigate Obama's illegal prisoner swap and draft articles of impeachment for these crimes!
4. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was a deserter. He left his post in the middle of the night during combat. He shipped all of his valuables home in preparation for going Away Without Leave (AWOL) and even purchased an AK-47 -- something that U.S. soldiers rarely do. All of this was in preparation for Bowe Bergdahl to abandon his fellow soldiers during a time of war. He left the base with nothing but the bare necessities for survival and he just so happened to be captured after leaving the base. “I am ashamed to be an American. And the title of US soldier is just the lie of fools,” he wrote. “I am sorry for everything. The horror that is America is disgusting.” The Pentagon's own findings prove that Bergdahl deserted his unit. The fact that Bowe Bergdahl was celebrated as a hero is ludicrous! He is a deserter who doesn't deserve to wear the uniform! He deserves a court-martial, not a Rose Garden press conference!
5. Six U.S. soldiers were killed trying to find Bowe Bergdahl after he went AWOL. If there's one thing that the Obama administration doesn't understand the value of, it is the sacrifice of a U.S. soldier. Bergdahl is responsible for their deaths. If he hadn’t run away from the military, they might still be alive today. The story is made more complicated by the fact that the soldiers who were searching for Bergdahl were forced to sign non-disclosure agreements, promising not to divulge what happened during their search and rescue. As you might remember, the Obama administration also forced the Benghazi survivors to sign NDAs as well! This is what the Obama administration does when there are details of a scandal that the White House doesn’t want the public to know about… When you combine the soldiers lost searching for Bergdahl with the casualties resulting from apprehending the 5 Taliban terrorists that Obama just released, this transfer becomes that much more shameful.
6. Obama broke the law performing this prisoner transfer. As already mentioned, by negotiating with the Taliban, the Obama administration destroyed the United States' policy of not negotiating with terrorists. That puts Americans in danger around the world. But the Obama administration also broke a law that mandates that the executive branch inform Congress 30-days ahead of any Guantanamo Bay prisoner swap. That law has been on the books since 2013, when President Obama signed it into law. Now, the Obama administration is claiming that they don't have to inform Congress, as the law mandates, because it is an unconstitutional law. So, let me get this straight... The Obama administration is claiming that a law the President signed just one year ago is unconstitutional??? I didn't know that President Obama is part of the judiciary and has the power to deem his own laws unconstitutional... THAT alone is impeachable. This is a vagrant violation of the law. The President just doesn't care anymore... He is making it up as he goes along and he must be stopped!
6a. Obama illegally gave aid to a terrorist organization. Returning these FIVE commanders to the Taliban, without a doubt, bolsters the group’s war efforts. When you have the senior leadership of a terrorist group imprisoned, the last thing you want to do is send them back to Afghanistan to plot more attacks. The law is clear that no United States citizen is allowed to give aid to a terrorist organization. Obama is a U.S. citizen, right? RIGHT?! Or do the laws of the land not apply to King Obama?
Short of a time machine, there's nothing we can do to stop this transfer. The Taliban prisoners are already in Qatar, where they got a Hero's Welcome and will spend a year under "house arrest" before being sent back to Afghanistan to plot attacks against America.
The Obama administration deliberately broke the law and performed the transfer without Congressional notification because the White House knew that if Congress got involved, the deal would be shot down!
What we can do is force Congress to investigate this horrible decision and ensure that those within the administration who broke the law, including the President himself, are punished or even impeached!
Impeachment isn't a word to throw around lightly, but for the Obama administration to illegally negotiate with terrorists and trade 5 high-ranking terrorists for one U.S. deserter is preposterous. It puts every American overseas at risk. Now terrorists know that the only thing they need to do to release their captured comrades is to take an American hostage!
Rep. Buck McKeon (R-CA) has announced that the House Armed Services Committee will investigate President Obama's decision to circumvent Congress in swapping five Guantánamo Bay prisoners for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. It is absolutely imperative that this committee be given subpoena power and allowed to fully investigate the matter before the Obama administration is able to silence witnesses and cover it up!
Can we start talking about impeachment yet? How many more laws must this administration break before we are allowed to discuss the ONLY safeguard against executive tyranny that the Founders gave us? I for one refuse to just sit back and allow this President to trample on the Constitution and our laws!
When Congress gets to the bottom of this, they will find this to be an impeachable offense. But they will only reach that conclusion if YOU force them to investigate this fully!
