Fellow Conservative,
Everyone knows that the First Amendment protects the right to free speech (among other things). Most rational people understand that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to keep and bear arms.
But what if you want to talk about guns? That should clearly fall under the First Amendment, right?
As far as the Obama administration is concerned, it doesn’t. They feel that simply talking about guns is too dangerous.
In early June, the Obama administration announced a new regulation that will ban gun-related free speech on the internet.
Imagine a world where you are prohibited from talking about guns on the internet; where there is a complete ban on instructional content and reviews. Imagine a world where the penalty for posting a gun-related Youtube video is 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
Well, that reality is now just days away. The State Department will finalize this new regulation early next week. This is your last chance to stop them!
I have covered this before, but here is some background information. The State Department is the agency in charge of regulating munitions exports. If you try to ship a rifle to ISIS, the State Department is the one that stops you.
The regulation governing these restrictions is known as ITAR – the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Traditionally, this is only supposed to apply to tangible munitions: firearms, ammunition, tanks, etc.
In the 1990s, computer scientists came up with what was, at the time, unbreakable computer security software. They combined a series of numbers, letters, and symbols and what they got was an unbreakable code. Instead of allowing this software to be shared with the world, the State Department classified it as “munitions” and outlawed it from being disseminated.
The State Department is taking this same principle and trying to expand it to regulate even more protected free speech.
Stopping someone from sending weapons to ISIS is one thing, but now the State Department believes it has the power to regulate and outlaw firearm knowledge on the internet. They want to make you a criminal for sharing firearm knowledge online, even if it means violating your free-speech rights.
This new regulation has already been added to the Federal Register. The State Department is aiming to “address the electronic transmission and storage of unclassified ‘technical data’ via foreign communications infrastructure.” In layman’s terms: if you talk about firearms online, and foreigners could possibly learn from it, you’d be a felon.
Here, the First and Second Amendments become one. Don’t let the Obama administration trample on the Bill of Rights!
It’s not too late! Click to stop Obama from violating the 1st and 2nd Amendments!
The penalty for shipping weapons to foreign terrorists is 20-years in prison.
If this regulation goes through, the penalty for posting a tutorial on the internet of how to disassemble a gun would also be 20-years in prison.
It has never been easier to get into the shooting sports. New gun owners can find everything they need to know for free on the internet. Whether it is proper gun safety, defensive classes, disassembly guides, or just reviews, all of this information is at your fingertips.
But Obama wants to make sharing this information a felony, all in the name of fighting terrorism. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
There’s a reason that this regulation was buried deep in the Federal register. There’s a reason the Obama administration didn’t announce the change in a press conference. They want to enact this unconstitutional regulation without you or anyone else knowing about it.
But now you know and knowledge is power. Now you have a responsibility to act. Now you have an obligation to do everything in your power to make sure that this tyrannical regulation never sees the light of day.
The window to put a stop to this madness is closing. The regulation will be finalized on August 3rd. That doesn’t give you a lot of time.
It will take an act of Congress to put a stop to this madness. It is up to you to reach out to every single Congressman and Senator and force them to stop this unconstitutional executive action!
Sincerely,
Joe Otto
