Fellow Conservative,
A lot has been happening in DC over the past couple of weeks. Obviously, we have the government shutdown because the Left refuses to fund Pres. Trump's border security demands. The March for Life was held over the past weekend (which the mainstream media tried to pretend never happened). Democrats and establishment Republicans are working on a massive gun control package to redefine the 2nd Amendment.
But while all this was happening, Senator Ted Cruz did something pretty amazing. No, I'm not talking about his new beard. I am talking about his new Constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress.
S.J.Res 1 -- the very first joint resolution introduced in the new Congress -- would create term limits for both the House and the Senate. Congressmen would only be allowed to serve three terms (six years) and Senators would have to leave after serving two terms (twelve years).
When Cruz introduced a similar resolution back in 2017, he stood practically alone. Mitch McConnell swore that it would never see the light of day. Today, Cruz has 7 co-sponsors in the Senate and the House version -- introduced by Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL) -- already has 25 co-sponsors.
The swamp creatures in DC are trying to stop this from making any progress. Not surprisingly, Members of Congress in office for three or four decades don't want to give up their power...
Ted Cruz did his part. He introduced the amendment in the United States Senate and is gathering signatures. Now it is up to YOU to force a vote!
Donald Trump ran on a very simple campaign promise to “Drain the Swamp.” One of his proposals was instituting term limits in Congress.
We can debate about how long we think those limits should be, but right now, the GOP leadership is refusing to let Congress debate it. McConnell has been in office for 34 years. Of course, Nancy Pelosi doesn't want this resolution to go anywhere. She's been in the House for 32 years. And Chuck Schumer... don't even get me started there. After spending 18 years in the House, Chuck is now "serving" his 20th year in the Senate.
In their mind, they don't see anything wrong with this.
What new ideas could these people possibly have after 30+ years?
People don’t run for re-election 5 times in order to serve their constituents. They do so in order to serve themselves.
That is what Ted Cruz’s amendment is all about: restoring the United States Congress to a service model, not one centered on personal-enrichment.
Both the Republican and Democrat leadership are trying to block this amendment from moving forward. But if you join us in bombarding Congress with a quarter million faxes today, we can force them to schedule a debate!
We need your help!
We now have our bill, not just to enshrine term limits into law, but to cement them into the Constitution.
This is within our grasp. Those Congressmen and Senators who have made a fortune off of their "service," like Mitch McConnell, will fight us tooth and nail to hold onto their power.
They will fail. It is up to us to make sure they fail.
We are closer than ever to dismantling Washington DC's permanent political class...
This is our moment,
Joe Otto
