Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms should be the name of a convenience store, not one of the most lawless and aggressive government agencies.
None of these products are illegal, but the ATF certainly treats them as such.
Take the AR-15 for example. It is literally America’s favorite rifle, with more models sold over the past years than any other.
The Obama administration tried to ban these rifles just as Bill Clinton did… but he failed. He failed miserably. Former White House aide Dan Pfeiffer admits that the angriest he ever saw Obama was after the Senate rejected his 2013 gun control proposals.
We on the pro-2nd Amendment side celebrated. But Barack H. Obama and his liberal allies plotted their response.
That response materialized in the ATF’s attempt to reclassify a subset of popular AR-15 surplus ammunition as being “armor piercing” so they could ban it.
But countless Americans and a bipartisan majority of Congress stood up and said ‘NO!’ We stopped the ATF’s bullet ban in its tracks. Now, however, the head of the ATF claims they need to reexamine how to do this “logically” and admitted before Congress that EVERY type of AR-15 ammunition is on the chopping block!
The ATF has been doing this for years. Every time a type of rifle becomes popular, the agency reinterprets a two-decade old law enforcement safety law to outlaw ammunition.
They did it in the 1990s by reclassifying popular 7.62x39 rifle ammunition as armor piercing handgun ammo so they could ban imports of military surplus ammunition.
They did it in 2014 by reclassifying popular 5.45x39 rifle ammunition as armor piercing handgun ammo so they could do the same.
Those two bans covered all of the cheap surplus for AK-style rifles. At the time, few people cared because they said it didn’t affect them. Now, the ATF is coming for your AR-15 ammunition.
It started with just the M855 ball ammunition typically used by US and NATO forces. It has since transformed into an assault on ALL .223/5.56 ammunition after ATF Director B. Todd Jones admitted during a Congressional hearing that “any 5.56 round” is “a challenge for officer safety.” The Left has taken the most popular rifle in America and attempted to redefine it as a “cop killer.”
We have to put a stop to this once and for all before the Democrats succeed in making millions of American gun owners instant felons overnight.
They say that the first day without the Second Amendment (after the government abolishes it) will also be the first day of the Second American Revolution. I believe that and if that day ever comes (God forbid) we should all be ready.
But now is not the time to grab the torches and pitchforks to march on Washington, though that would certainly be fun.
Right now, we need to make sure that Congress passes the Ammunition and Firearms Protection Act. This bill is simple: it stops the ATF from banning any “armor piercing” ammunition designed and intended to be used in a rifle.
This would roll back the ATF’s previous rifle ammunition bans and stop the agency from ever targeting AR-15 bullets again.
The ATF may have temporarily withdrawn it’s proposal to ban M855 ammunition, but Democrats in Congress and the White House are looking for a way to put it back on the table.
Now is not the time to rest on our laurels… Now is the time to deliver a finishing blow to ensure we never have to wage this fight ever again.
