Fellow American,
It has been a while since I wrote an editorial on what I think about everyday. What we face as a nation is daunting at times and even more hopeless at others. We find ourselves fighting but we find ourselves questioning why we even make the effort to fight. Our leadership is pathetic. Nearly everywhere we turn we find ourselves surrounded by much of the same self-indulgence and greed that has eroded every part of the fundamental core of our nation. It appears never ending and it seems to me that entitlement and selfishness, the opposite of what our forefathers stood for, is redefining our great nation.
Edmund Burke stated, “All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.” Thomas Jefferson stated as well in his infinite wisdom, “I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country.” And yet we have Abraham Lincoln who stated so eloquently, “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
So there we have it. If we do nothing, we fall on the sword of evil men. If we let corporations and corrupt leadership go unchallenged as they defy and defile the laws of our nation, we allow that evil to win. And as we sit and watch those who would serve themselves at the expense of the people, we let them destroy us, in essence destroying ourselves.
I want to point out some really hard things to argue with. I am not saying it is only Obama. I am not saying it is only Democrats. How can I when the IRS is targeting Americans? They are not elected. How can I as elected officials on both sides of the aisle refuse to stand up and act as cowards. When I was younger, my father told me, “what is right is rarely popular and what is popular is rarely right.” How can I say that Democrats or Republicans as leaders are the answer when neither represent the interests of the people? When neither is willing or courageous enough to stand?
Let me list some of them for you and please tell me how much has been accomplished by our leadership on both sides of the aisle to hold those in positions of power accountable?
Military: 47% of our military qualifies for welfare in some form and though we had a huge scandal, Veterans are abused, our leadership is silent, and there still is no accountability. 1 in 6 Americans is actively being threatened or pursued by the IRS.
Benghazi: They blamed it on a video… nothing has been done, despite documented findings of improprieties.
Obamacare: The promise was the average American family would save $2,500 a year. Since 2011 rates have ballooned an average 191%.
Fast & Furious: We had our government give guns to cartels in Mexico. They were used to kill Americans. No one to date has been arrested, charged, or held accountable.
Lois Lerner: Attacks Americans, White House found to be using the IRS as tool of persecution, and nothing is done. NOTHING!
I really want to go on… but before I do, answer this question for me… despite the dog and pony show of hearings, and contempt charges, what has been done? Let me answer it for you… nothing. No one has been impeached, no one has been arrested, and no one has been held accountable… NO ONE. The only people who are held to account on the laws of this nation are Americans. You, me, and those we call our friends or foes.
While Congressional leadership and government workers are exempt from Obamacare, they are rewarded with a Cadillac healthcare plan and we foot the bill at exorbitant rates for plans that cover less and cost three times as much. If it was so great, why does it not apply to them?
While Congressional leadership gets retirement pensions after only 4-6 years of service, hardworking Americans who have worked 30+ years found themselves with no retirement.
While Congressional leadership get paid to work less than 5 months a year at a hefty salary of over $200,000 a year and office budgets in the millions, the average American saw his or her wages decline almost 26% over the last 6 years.
While Congressional leadership fails to stand up, we as Americans need to take a stand. As they make empty promises and stuff their faces while serving corporate interests, the American people work just to stay afloat.
See? It does not appear to matter who is in office these days. We elected more Republicans and days later, Obama stood on a stage and mocked the American majority. Days later he passed an illegal executive action and the Republicans said nothing. They do not stand; they stay silent. Must I remind you: Evil prevails when good men do nothing. So again, evil prevails, and we lose.
We say, Repeal Obamacare, extend Medicare to the uninsurable. Measurable cost… but they do nothing. Both sides paralyzed not by fear of the people, but fear of the establishment that put them in the position of trust they are in. Back door dealings and more empty promises of going to Washington to defend the rights of the people. All while nothing happens, no one stands, and we as the people grow more and more angry with what we see as hopelessness.
I have not even begun to scratch the surface of the tyranny we face. Let us be honest, could any of us act as our leadership have acted and still be employed? Would we not be arrested if we sold guns to criminals? If we lied under oath, or defied court orders, would we not be subject to jail time? Then why do they continue to get away with it? I am sick of it, you are sick of it, we are sick of it!
We continue to be unequally yoked and subject to the rules of oppression. Be mad at me for stating it. Be mad at me for feeling it. But it’s true. Everyday we see more and more and all we hear is a bunch of hot air and cowards that do nothing.
So today, as we sit here, I want all of you to send a message to congress. To see that message go ahead and click here….
I understand this is a very emotional and admittedly angry and long message… but find a way to argue with it and I certainly will listen. I want this not to be true of our leadership… prove to me that I am wrong and I will apologize. Right now, however, the temperature of our nation needs to rise to the level of corruption we are experiencing today. Or give in to the evil and let it prevail.
All the best,
Joe Otto
