Barack Obama has chosen a replacement for Justice Antonin Scalia and it is making me sick.
DC Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Merrick Garland received the nod. Obama says that Garland is a moderate who Conservatives can get behind. He is lying.
One of Justice Scalia’s major accomplishments at the Supreme Court level was the opinion he wrote on the DC v Heller case. This was the case that decided whether American citizens actually have a right to own a handgun.
Justice Scalia wrote the decision that affirmed the individual right to keep and bear arms. Judge Garland – Obama’s pick – decided in that the government has a right to stop citizens from owning firearms all together. When lower courts affirmed the individual right to own a handgun, Garland was one of four appeals judges who voted to rehear the case en banc. He wanted to overturn the lower court’s ruling. Thank God he never got the chance.
But now Obama wants to give him that opportunity. This is what we’ve been talking about, people. No sooner had Justice Scalia passed, Obama and the Left were already chomping at the bit to overturn his landmark Heller decision.
Already, Republicans are saying that Garland is moderate enough and deserves a hearing.
NO!
In 2000, the NRA sued the Federal government (NRA v Reno) for creating a registry of American gun owners. Even though the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act literally prevents the Federal government from creating “any registry” of American gun owners, Judge Garland joined the 2-1 decision upholding the government’s practices.
The decision said that even though the law explicitly prohibits a gun registry, the government should be allowed to create a registry for audit purposes. Let that sink in. Even though the law says a registry is illegal, Judge Garland voted to allow a registry to exist anyway.
This is everything that liberals want. They want the power to arbitrarily ban guns and they want the power to force gun owners to register with the government, the first step towards confiscation.
If Judge Garland is appointed to the Supreme Court, the 2nd Amendment is dead. That’s not an exaggeration. If he is appointed, he will vote to overturn the Heller decision and eliminate your individual right to own a firearm.
It has been just minutes since Obama announced his pick and Congressional Republicans are already saying that Garland is someone they can live with.
No, they’re not insane. They’re just unprincipled. These so-called Conservatives are actually accepting Obama’s nominee.
You need to put the fear of God into these people. The only reason they’re moving forward with this is because they think they can get away with it! They think they can replace Justice Scalia with a rabidly anti-gun Judge and We the People will just accept it.
We will NOT!
This is moving forward. The RINOs in charge of the Republican party would rather let Obama pack the court than wait to see if a Conservative wins the Presidency.
They just can’t stop surrendering…
Don’t let this happen. Don’t let the establishment force this liberal down our throats!
