Today, Democrats will unveil their biggest gun control package ever... and they'll have so-called Republicans at their side. We have been warning for weeks that the GOP establishment was eager to surrender on gun control.
Well, that day has finally arrived.
The legislation, being co-sponsored by Republicans Peter King (NY) and Brian Mast (FL), would create a nationwide gun registry to track all firearm purchases and transfers. That is what leftists want when they call for "universal background checks." In order to keep track of private gun sales and transfers, they have to keep a record of who owns what guns in order to be able to tell whether they are transferred "legally."
But the Left's new package goes far beyond just a nationwide gun registry. Republicans -- you read that right, Republicans -- are also pushing for the bill to include a massive gun confiscation provision as well!
It has long been said that the first step towards confiscation is registration. The establishment wants to skip the slippery slope entirely and legalize both in one fell swoop!
Under the background check bill, the government would receive notice every time a firearm changes hands. But under the "red flag" amendment, government would also receive the power to confiscate firearms from innocent Americans.
The red flag proposal would allow friends, family members, neighbors, and even complete strangers to turn gun owners into police to have their firearms confiscated. Not because they are criminals or mentally ill, but simply because the whistle blower doesn't think they should own firearms.
Forget about "innocent until proven guilty..." If this bill passes, gun owners would be seen as guilty until proven innocent!
You have a right to keep and bear arms. That means that the government is supposed to meet a high evidentiary standard to suspend that right. But under this new proposal, gun owners would face confiscations based on nothing but hearsay and police wouldn't even need to charge them with a crime!
It is a gross abuse of power. Back in November, a 62-year-old Maryland man was shot and killed by police in his own doorway when he refused to surrender his firearms. He wasn't a criminal or mentally ill. He had gotten into an argument with an extended family member days before and she decided to get even by turning him into police to have his guns confiscated.
Republicans had tried to push this through last year, but you and millions of other conservative patriots rose up to stop them.
But now, Democrats want to push it through and, like always, they've figured out a way to make it so much worse!
This bill would not only give the government the power to keep a gun owner registry, but also the power to confiscate firearms without due process. This is what the Left has always dreamed about.
Even worse, they have Republican support. Nancy Pelosi will announce today that she has the votes to pass the registration/confiscation gun control package with a bipartisan majority. Democrats are already trying to whip up the votes in the Senate. They are targeting "moderates" like Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Marco Rubio, Mitt Romney, and others. If they can flip four, they'll have enough votes for final passage in the Senate.
The Left has waited close to a decade to come after your gun rights. The only thing that held them, and the spineless GOP, in check was YOU!
Don't give up now. Don't let them push this abomination through.
We don't get second chances with this... You have to fight back against this gun grab right now, before it's too late!
