Fellow Conservative,
The first real political fight of the year is upon us. A vote on the Keystone XL pipeline is imminent in the Senate.
This pipeline would stretch from Canada all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. It would transport North American oil, through pipes made of American steel, which will be built using American labor.
The President has had more than enough time to approve this project. Because the pipeline has to cross an international border, the Obama administration has the final say.
Obama doesn’t want to bite the hand that feeds him. The last thing he wants to do is anger billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer and endanger Democrats in the next election.
Most recently, the White House claimed that they couldn’t act until the Nebraska Supreme Court decided whether the proposed route was constitutional.
Well, the Nebraska Supreme Court threw the lawsuit out, meaning that the project can proceed as planned. There is literally NOTHING in the President’s way… except his politics.
Obama and his allies believe that killing the Keystone XL Pipeline would kill tar sand development up north. That simply isn’t the case. Even with oil as low as it is, companies like Exxon remain just as willing to develop this land.
The Keystone XL Pipeline is the safest and most cost-effective method to ship oil across country over the long term. Oil is already being transported using trucks and trains.
Data compiled by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration shows that as reliance on rails for oil transport increases, so too does the number of accidents. Of the ten worst railroad oil spills that have happened in the U.S. over the past decade, SEVEN of them have occurred in the past three years. This is not to mention the devastating oil spill in Quebec last July that completely decimated a town and killed 47 people.
Obama has promised that this year will be an epic year for increased EPA regulations. It truly is amazing how hard this administration tries to make energy unaffordable for Americans.
Oil is the lowest it’s been for years? Liberals (and some Republicans) use that to push for increasing the gas tax.
Electricity costs decreasing? Obama goes after coal to make electricity even MORE expensive!
And now, we have a chance to become North American energy independent. Yes, the pipeline will mostly transport Canadian oil and yes, some of that will likely be exported to other countries. But this pipeline would also bring oil to US refineries in the Gulf of Mexico. And there is a simple fix. The legislation should mandate that at least 50% of pipeline oil be refined for domestic consumption.
But instead of making this project happen through compromise, Democrats are more interested in pandering to their environmental donors…
Instead of allowing this infrastructure project to move forward, Barack Obama has promised to veto it.
This is where you come in. You need to raise your voice and get loud. You need to explain to your Congressman and Senators that their constituents want this project to be approved.
Gas prices have already dropped. Unfortunately, it is probably only a matter of time before they swing upwards.
But can you imagine how much cheaper gasoline would be if the Keystone XL Pipeline was already completed?
When he was running for President in 2008, Barack Obama famously claimed that drilling for more domestic oil would have no effect on gas prices. That was a lie. He actually once claimed that the pipeline would cause an INCREASE in gas prices…
A President with even the slightest amount of integrity would stand before the American people and admit that he was wrong. But that’s not what Obama is doing. Even with gas below $2 in many states, the President is still clinging to his lies.
The Keystone XL Pipeline is good for Americans and if the legislation is crafted correctly, it could drastically reduce gas prices.
Now it is up to you to demand it!
Sincerely,
Joe Otto
