Today, millions of Americans will vote in person, on election day, showing photo identification. We are doing this because it is the appropriate way to protect “our democracy,” not because it’s legally required in many of our communities. You have a duty, and swore an oath, to protect the integrity of the electoral franchise, but even simple, common sense controls you’ve neglected.

Tomorrow, you will be a Lame Duck Congress. Perhaps the most famous lame duck session 162 years ago, when Abraham Lincoln was elected and slave-owning states made clear their intentions to secede. President James Buchanan chose to blame Lincoln and Republicans for the division over slavery – rather than take a hard line for freedom and people of color. The rest is history.

Many of you will lose your seats today. If our elections are free and fair, most of you will. The American people overwhelmingly desire the resurrection of competence in American governance. Your self interest has become clear, your gaslighting exposed, and we are ready for new representation; legislators who understand they serve at the pleasure of the people. Legislators who understand the consequences of stolen elections.

One thing you don’t seem to understand is that we -- Americans -- are talented people. You look at us by race, gender and zipcode, but we are engineers and cyber experts, journalists, researchers and lawyers. Professionals from every industry and sector, every function and capability. We’ve spent two years understanding our elections.

You can no longer tell us that fraud that looks like fraud isn’t fraud, simply because you said so. You can no longer trot out liberal arts majors or lawyers with zero relevant expertise and call them “experts.” It worked in 2020, because we believed you knew what you were doing. We no longer believe that. You’ve proven that you don’t.

Electronic voting equipment leaves an audit trail. Real experts can evaluate and understand that trail. Real experts have, for two years. Every aspect of the 2022 midterms is under the people’s surveillance.

Tomorrow, you will be a Lame Duck Congress. Learn from the notorious lame ducks of history. Don’t attempt to tank the economy, like Republicans and the Panic of 1893. Don’t engage in (further) partisan political persecutions, like Democrats and McCarthy in 1954 or Republicans and Clinton in 1998.

Above all, don’t lead the nation into Civil War to maintain your hold on power, like the Democrats of 1861. The institutional slavery of the establishment is over.

“I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
