Dear Conservative,
The time has come to dump the GOP leadership in Congress.
Once again, John Boehner has caved under the pressure and given in to Barack Obama’s demands to raise the debt ceiling! Rather than promoting YOUR conservative interests, Boehner has joined Democrats in passing a fiscally irresponsible debt ceiling increase (S.540). Once again, John Boehner has stabbed you in the back!
Conservatives reclaimed the House of Representatives for the GOP in 2010 and gave John Boehner the Speakership. Yet, whenever the time comes to actually support the conservative principles that put them in office, GOP leaders run away with their tail between their legs.
John Boehner and the GOP leadership are fair-weather conservatives. They promise to represent you when their jobs are on the line, but reveal their true intentions once they get to Washington D.C.
Everyone has been talking about all the job growth in North Dakota stemming from the state’s energy boom. North Dakota has the lowest unemployment rate in the country (2.6%) and had the most job growth in the country during 2013. Do you know where the second-highest job growth was last year? In Washington D.C.
The number of self-interested bureaucrats and spineless politicians in the District of Columbia has skyrocketed in recent years! And whether we like it or not, WE are responsible!
We put these “conservatives” in office, and I use the term “conservative” lightly because the GOP leadership truly is conservative in name only…
You put them in office and you ensured that they were reelected! Republicans went to Washington D.C. to represent you, and they have failed. Even worse, they have revealed that they never had any intention to represent your conservative values!
This is the greatest bait and switch of our lifetime. We are told time after time that voting Republican is all that is necessary to take this country back. Well, it’s not. Blindly voting for Republicans is exactly what has gotten us into the mess we are in now!
John Boehner’s decision to introduce a “clean” debt ceiling bill is an affront and slap in the face to true conservatism. Boehner introduced a bill giving the Democrats exactly what they wanted, and it passed with just 28 Republican votes. Senate Bill 540 was drafted by Senate Democrats without any Republican input or amendments. When the bill went to the House, instead of amending the legislation to represent conservatives’ interests, Boehner put it up for a vote as-is!
This is absolutely unacceptable!
On the one hand, we MUST stop this endless federal spending that threatens to enslave our grandchildren. Every fight over the debt ceiling is another reminder that we, as a country, still haven’t figured out how to live within our means. But it is also a stark reminder that future generations will be forced to foot the bill for the trillions upon trillions of debt and unfunded liabilities that we have amassed.
But, on the other hand, if a debt ceiling increase is to be seen as necessary and unavoidable, this is a prime opportunity to use it as political leverage to enact real conservative policies.
How about instead of giving minimum wage workers a raise, we restore our military veterans’ pensions that Congress stole from them?
How about we strip the Affordable Care Act of its risk-corridor provision that allows the government to bail out insurance companies when Obamacare fails?
How about we green-light the Keystone Pipeline to provide thousands of construction jobs to Americans who desperately need them and put the U.S. on the path to North American energy independence?
All three of these ideas were proposed as amendments to the debt ceiling bill, and John Boehner refused to include them in the final bill. Instead of putting a conservative bill up for a floor vote and telling Democrats to “take it or leave it,” Boehner didn’t even put up a fight. He didn’t even pretend to stand up for your conservative principles!
For the past few decades, House Speakers have, more or less, followed the Hastert Rule. The Hastert Rule, named after former-Speaker Dennis Hastert, is a non-binding principle that a Speaker of the House should never allow a floor vote on legislation that the “majority of the majority” opposes. Following this rule ensures that the minority party in the House of Representatives must compromise to get anything accomplished (not the other way around).
What Boehner and the Republican leadership did is absolutely astonishing! Boehner introduced a Democrat-piece of legislation, and put the bill up for a floor vote. With 87.9% of House Republicans opposing the bill, 28 RINOs joined a nearly unanimous Democrat caucus to approve it. Nancy Pelosi could have been Speaker yesterday and it would have made no difference.
Having a so-called Conservative Speaker of the House allow a contentious liberal piece of legislation to be voted on and passed is UNACCEPTABLE!
We always talk about how we need to take this country back. Well, before we can do that, we need to take the Republican Party back from the RINOs who seized control of leadership positions.
Do you know what the Democrats are saying now? They are trying to pressure Boehner and the push-over Republicans to allow a vote on illegal immigrant amnesty, gun control, and a job-killing minimum wage hike! You might think that John Boehner won’t cave to this pressure… except he already has!
John Boehner must be the first to go! He must be fired as Speaker NOW, and only you can force your representatives to stand for conservatism and oppose this RINO treachery!
Join me in telling Congress to right the ship and replace those in leadership positions with REAL conservatives who truly represent the American people!
