The result of your hard work and dedication came through last month. Congress passed legislation to defund Planned Parenthood for an entire year, which would be a death sentence for the organization. Planned Parenthood would have to choose whether to continue providing abortions or whether they would prefer to continue receiving Federal funding. Either way, the pro-life movement wins. Either Planned Parenthood gives up its abortion business (and it is a business) or they get cut off from taxpayer funds.
The legislation just barely squeaked by in the House, passing by just two votes. Now as the Senate is drafting its own healthcare legislation, and at least three GOP Senators are threatening to kill the entire Obamacare repeal bill if it removes Planned Parenthood funding. Those three Republican Senators are Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), and Dean Heller (Nevada). Those three No votes would be enough to kill the provision and other Republicans are rumored to be with them as well.
What we have learned so far in the Trump Presidency is that we have to hold Congress’ feet to the fire on every single issue. The Republican House and Senate put legislation on Obama’s desk in 2015 that would have defunded Planned Parenthood. Former-President Obama predictably vetoed it. Now that there is an administration willing to cut off all federal funding to these abortion providers, the GOP is getting cold feet.
With your help, we helped pressure Congress into getting it this far. We are so close to shutting down this butcher shop once and for all. But with the finish line in sight, liberal Republicans are once again plotting a massive surrender.

It is estimated that Federal dollars and reimbursements account for 75% of Planned Parenthood’s yearly revenue. Cutting off that funding, even for just a year, would cripple the organization. It would collapse in on itself.
Under the current bill, the money that would otherwise go to Planned Parenthood and abortion providers would instead be given to pro-life Women’s health centers. I have worked with these types of pregnancy centers first hand and I cannot emphasize enough how much good they do. They provide the prenatal services for women who decide to keep their babies and even help to set up adoptions in order to convince expectant mothers not to terminate.
We have never been closer to ending the scourge of taxpayer funded for-profit abortion clinics. We have also never been closer to the GOP completely surrendering on the issue, either.
All of these Republicans voted to defund Planned Parenthood in 2015. They put the bill on Obama’s desk and then took to the microphone to criticize his veto. Now that they have the opportunity to get it signed into law, they’re cowering.
It only takes three Senate Republicans to vote against it and the measure dies. That is how close this is…
But we aren’t just pressuring the Senate on this. We’re pressuring the House as well to make sure they don’t cave and walk back their promises.
Today is Mother’s Day - a day to celebrate women who give birth to and raise this country's children - and I cannot think of a better issue to fight for today than the rights of the unborn.
