We have been keeping a close eye on all of the gun control bills making their way through Congress. We have never seen something like this. The Left has been preparing for this for decades. They have been waiting for a chance to push through their gun control agenda, and they believe this is that moment.
Republicans, on the other hand, are terrified. They are convinced that if they don't "do something" on gun control, then they will lose re-election next fall.
They are right, they need to "do something." But gun control isn't the answer. They need to finally pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and give all law-abiding Americans the power to defend themselves in public!
The 2nd Amendment says that you have a right to carry a firearm in public for self-defense and that the government cannot infringe on this right. That is what the term "bear arms" means.
But reality falls short of the Founders' promises. Today, there is no legal way for an American civilian to carry a firearm in all 50 states. Only active and retired police officers can...
There are 20 states that honor all carry permits: AL, AK, AZ, AR, ID, IN, KS, KY, MI, MS, MO, MT, NC, OH, OK, SD, TN, UT, VT, and VA. But the rest of the states refuse to honor at least some out-of-state carry permits.
CA, NY, NJ, IL, MA, MD, RI, CT, OR, and DC all refuse to honor ANY out-of-state carry permits. The majority of these states also refuse to issue concealed carry permits to their law-abiding residents (Illinois and DC were forced to start issuing carry permits by the courts).
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act fixes both of these problems. If you are permitted or allowed to carry a concealed weapon in one state, then you would instantly get reciprocity in all 50 states. Your carry permit would be like a driver's license: every state would have to honor it. That includes people living in Constitutional Carry states as well. If you live in a state like Kansas where the government doesn't require a permit to carry (the Constitution is your permit), then the only thing you would need to carry nationwide is an ID proving you live in one of these Constitutional Carry states.
But the bill would go even further than that. It would also restore the right to carry to the 26% of Americans who live in May-Issue states like California, New York, and New Jersey. In these states, the government refuses to issue carry permits to law abiding Americans. Even if they have a clean record and pass all of their classes, these liberal states don't believe everyday citizens should be allowed to carry. The result is that practically no one has a permit to carry in these states. Only the wealthy and politically connected have their applications approved.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would end this abuse of power. If you are a law abiding citizen living in one of these anti-gun states, then you would be able to get a non-resident permit from states like Florida, Utah, and New Hampshire. You would then be able to use that non-resident permit to carry nationwide, including in your home state!
Liberal states would no longer be allowed to arbitrarily block law-abiding Americans from defending themselves in public. Every single state-level anti-carry law in this country would be torn down.
Democrats are terrified of this. They have spent the better part of the last century eroding Americans' self-defense rights. They have gotten away with violating tens of millions of Americans' God-given rights.
The Constitution already explains how to deal with states that violate Americans' civil rights. Congress must act and only you can force them to!
Congress doesn't just the power to pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act... they have an obligation to pass it!
The biggest complaint we hear is that this bill would violate states' rights. Respectfully, that is hogwash.
The 14th Amendment was passed after the Civil War to force Southern states to respect the rights and liberties of freed slaves. But the text of the bill applies broadly to all civil rights infringements.
"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
And in Section 5 of the Amendment, it reads that "the Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."
When a state refuses to issue their residents concealed carry permits, they are depriving them of their liberty. And when states refuse to honor out of state carry permits, they are denying people equal protection under the law.
Congress doesn't just the power to pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act... they have an obligation to pass it!
The GOP is desperate to pass some firearm legislation. We are fighting every day to stop the most heinous gun control packages from making it into the final version of the bill.
But it isn't enough to just play defense. This is also a chance to get this concealed carry bill passed into law. This is an opportunity to restore a quarter of the country's 2nd Amendment rights and tear down the patchwork reciprocity system all at once.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act just gained another co-sponsor. Rep. Robert Wittman (R-VA) became the latest Republican to sign onto the bill last week.
We are picking up momentum. This is our best chance to push this through!
