Donald Trump took over and announced that he was pulling the US from the treaty. Since Obama never had the treaty ratified, Trump had every right to un-sign what Obama signed.
But the United Nations said 'not so fast.' When Obama signed it, he agreed that the United States would not be allowed to withdraw until November 4, 2020. That's the day after the 2020 election...
This is by design. Obama wanted to make sure that if Trump won in 2016, he would have to win a second time in order to fully withdraw from the treaty.
Obama had no right to sign the treaty to begin with, but he worked with the UN to make sure that Trump wouldn't be allowed to withdraw until his second term. And if a Democrat won in 2020, then they could restore the treaty and keep funneling your taxes to the United Nations anyway...
But something has changed. Democrats aren't confident that Trump will lose any more. Leftists like Michael Moore have actually started begging Michelle Obama to run for President because they don't believe any of the Democrat candidates right now can beat Trump.
All of a sudden, Obama's failsafe isn't good enough. So, Democrats in Congress have come up with a backup plan.
It is a one-sentence-long amendment that was just slipped into the yearly spending bill and it would make it impossible for Trump to withdraw from the UN's climate treaty, win or lose...

The provision reads,
"None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act, or prior Acts making appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs, may be used to provide formal notification under Article 28 of the Paris Agreement of the withdrawal of the United States from such Agreement."
This one sentence would block Trump from withdrawing from the Obama-UN climate treaty. Even though Obama had no right to sign it... and the Senate never ratified it... this provision prohibits Trump from formally pulling out.
When Congress passes its yearly spending bill over the next couple weeks, it will outline what the government is allowed to spend your tax do llars on next year. But the bill will also dictate what the government is not allowed to spend on.
This amendment says that none of the funds given to the Federal government can be used to withdraw from the treaty. That means no spending on postal stamps, envelopes, paper, ink, courier services, or even government salaries... The government would be blocked from even spending a cent to withdraw from the treaty.
This is so unconstitutional. The founders wrote the Treaty Clause for a reason. In order for an international treaty to control the United States, 2/3 of the Senate has to vote for it.
But the Democrats' new plan would preserve the treaty with just a simple majority.
So not only did Obama have no right to sign the treaty, but now the Left is trying to bypass the Constitution to make it permanent with just a simple majority.
The media isn't covering any of this. They are deliberately providing the left with cover so they can advance this amendment behind closed doors. The Left and their GOP allies know that the media will never cover this. They want to surrender our sovereignty to the United Nations without you finding out.
