Democrats are working with the GOP to resurrect their radical gun confiscation bill!
A lot is happening right now in DC. Obviously, there is the final impeachment vote this week in the House. The GOP and Democrats also need to pass a government spending bill by the end of Friday, or else the government will shut down.
But amidst all of that, Democrats are also receiving tremendous pressure from the far Left to make good on one of their main promises: to impose new gun control onto the American people.
Democrat voters are furious that Nancy Pelosi has squandered an entire year and failed to enact any new gun control laws. Even with the terrible mass shootings over the summer, Congressional Democrats were unable to force their most radical proposals onto the American people.
But now, the Left thinks they have found a "compromise." Their ultimate goal is still nationwide gun bans and complete civilian disarmament, but Pelosi and her team are now willing to compromise on a GOP bill that would let the government disarm innocent gun owners one-by-one!
Colloquially, it is called a 'Red Flag Law.' Officially, though, the bill is called the Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act. Here is how it works:
Normally, in order for the government to disarm someone, prosecutors need to prove that a gun owner broke the law. They have to secure and indictment and then convince a judge/jury, beyond a reasonable doubt, that someone deserves to lose their right to self defense.
Democrats hate this. To them, all gun owners deserve to be disarmed, whether or not they have done anything wrong.
The Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act would give government this power. Instead of having to secure an indictment and a conviction to take away someone's rights, this bill would allow prosecutors to disarm gun owners simply by convincing a judge that it is "more likely than not" that they are "dangerous."
So all the government would need to do is convince a judge that there is at least a 51% chance that someone is dangerous. Once a gun owner is disarmed, it would be up to them to convince a judge that they are NOT dangerous. But if they fail to convince the judge, then the disarmament order would be extended out to a year.
And remember, all of this happens without the gun owner being charged or even accused of a crime. Legally, they are innocent until proven guilty. But this law would allow the government to take away their gun rights anyway...
As I said, this is a GOP bill. It was written by Marco Rubio and has about half of the Republican caucus behind it. With Democrats at their side, they have the votes to push this through!
Forget about "innocent until proven guilty." This bill would presume gun owners "guilty until proven innocent."
It would give the government the power to disarm innocent people without even needing to accuse them of breaking the law...
This is what the Left has always wanted. Forget about the right to keep and bear arms. This legislation is designed to turn that right into a privilege that can be revoked at any time...
Democrats aren't giving up on their other disarmament plans. But right now, this is the biggest threat to the 2nd Amendment because it has the votes to pass!
We are hearing there may be a last ditch attempt to pass this bill before the end of the year so that Democrats and Republicans alike can claim that they "did something" on guns.
You CANNOT let them get away with this!
