A few weeks ago, I warned that there were 30,000 African migrants marching through Central America with the goal of crossing the US-Mexico border and claiming "asylum."
We were widely accused of fear-mongering and making the whole thing up. Even though it is well sourced, we were accused to trying to "manufacture" a crisis.
Well, we were right all along, and official numbers now prove it. We are seeing a surge of African migrants crossing the border like we have never seen before. Over the past 50 days, Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio Sector have apprehended more than 1,100 African migrants crossing the border. Most of them have been caught crossing in groups of over a hundreds.
Remember, these numbers are just from one border sector. The other sectors will report their official numbers at the end of the month.
President Trump took action this week to try to stop this invasion. He issued an executive action requiring that all migrants claim asylum in the first safe country that they reach. African migrants, for example, would no longer be allowed to fly from Cameroon to Brazil, march through South and Central America, and then claim that the only place they could be safe from violence in Africa is the United States. They would have to apply in the first country they reach where they are safe from the violence they are allegedly fleeing.
Federal asylum laws state that asylum seekers must prove they have a "credible fear" of persecution. But right now, 90% of the asylum seekers who make "credible fear" claims end up losing their case in court. The new rule stipulates that in order for a migrant to have "credible fear," they must apply for asylum in every country they travel through before being eligible to apply in the US.
For example, Africans who fly into Brazil would need to apply for asylum in at least 8 countries before they would be allowed to ask the United States for asylum.
Nancy Pelosi, however, disagrees. She called Trump's order "cruel" and proof of Trump's "utter disdain and disregard for immigrant communities and communities of color." Yep, predictably, she called Trump a racist.
But it isn't Pelosi's words that I'm worried about. It is what she, Democrats, and yes, even some Republicans, are doing to stop Trump's new order!
Right now, both parties are negotiating over a piece of legislation known as the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act. Congress has to pass a version of this bill every year, otherwise the Department will run out of funding.
Congress has to pass 12 appropriations bills every year to avoid a government shutdown. So far, the House has held votes on eleven of them. The only one they haven't voted on yet is the bill for DHS. Pelosi blocked the vote last week in order to force Republicans to surrender to her demands. Her plan is working.
Pelosi is demanding that the GOP do two things: open the border and shutdown domestic immigration enforcement. In other words, her spending package would block Border Patrol and ICE from detaining people at the border and launching deportation raids against illegal aliens in the interior of the country.
The Left is using their Power of the Purse to cut off funding for immigration enforcement. Sure, it would still be against the law to sneak into the United States, but the Trump administration would no longer have the funding needed to enforce those laws. This is what amnesty looks like.
To counter this, the Democrats are introducing an amendment requiring the Trump administration to handle asylum claims pursuant to the regulations that were in place during the Obama administration. This is the same tactic the Left is using to try to restore Planned Parenthood's Health and Human Services funding. The draft of the Homeland Security version would require Trump to restore the regulations that were in place right before he was inaugurated.
It would be like Trump was never even elected...
We know what the Left is going to try to push through, but we are running out of time to stop it. Congress must pass a new Homeland Security Appropriations Act. If they slip this amendment through, it is all over. Trump would be forced to readopt Obama's catch-and-release policies and be prohibited from launching deportation raids. It would be like Obama was in charge of the country's immigration policy again...
Here's the thing, though. The Left's resolve is actually starting to crumble. Just this week, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D) admitted that asylum fraud is a crisis at the border. For months, she has supported the Left's open border agenda. But she is getting so much pressure from constituents that she just flipped. She is now supporting the President's plan to expedite deportations of illegal aliens with fraudulent asylum claims.
Democrats are freaking out. They know that if they wait too much longer, they won't have the votes to push their radical agenda through. That is why they are rushing to push this through.
If you're going to rise up to stop this, it has to be now!
