Yesterday, President Trump made history. He announced from the East Room of the White House that he is expanding Operation Legend to send federal law enforcement officers to two more cities: Chicago, Illinois and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Operation LeGend is named after LeGend Taliferro, a 4-year-old boy (shown above) who was shot and killed last month in Kansas City when a stray bullet flew into his bedroom. He was killed in his sleep. Donald Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr created Operation Legend, in his honor. They sent Federal officers into Kansas City and in less than three weeks, 200 violent criminals were behind bars.
Trump warned in June that if cities and states cannot or will not keep their residents safe, he will intervene to put down the riots. Most cities complied and restored order, but Portland, Oregon has now seen over 50-straight-nights of riots. When rioters tried to burn down a federal courthouse this month, Trump and Barr expanded Operation Legend to send federal officers to Portland as well.
The Left howled. Last night, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler tried to join the rioters to show his support. He has to be whisked away after the mob turned violent. His offense? He told them he would never abolish the city's police department. While he was fleeing for his life, he was hit with tear gas. The mob that he tried to join had begun shooting fireworks at federal officers, prompting them to use tear gas to disperse the violent crowd. So not only did the mob turn on the Portland Mayor, but he also got tear gassed. Not the photo-op he was hoping for...
Why is Trump expanding into Chicago? On Tuesday, 14 people were gunned down in broad daylight outside of a funeral home. This wasn't a targeted gangland shooting. The thugs pulled up outside a funeral home and started firing indiscriminately into the crowd... on a busy street... in broad daylight... Trump responded by announcing yesterday that more federal officers are being deployed into Chicago to start enforcing the law.
Nancy Pelosi warned Trump on Monday that there would be hell to pay if he sent more federal officers into American cities. The Left would rather innocent children like Legend Taliferro continue to die than allow Trump to quell the violence and get a "win."
But Pelosi wasn't kidding. She is advancing legislation right now that would pull the plug on Operation Legend all together!
This week, Congress must begin debating and voting on 12 bills to fund the Federal government. If these 12 appropriations acts don't pass, the federal government will shut down.
Since these bills are considered "must-pass," the Left loves to sneak radical amendments into the legislation. They know that Republicans are too afraid of a government shutdown to stop them...
But this time, the Left isn't trying to hide what they are doing. They are openly adding amendments to these bills to revoke Operation Legend's federal funding.
Since Operation Legend is a collaboration between the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, the Left has attached defunding amendments to both of the departments' appropriations bills. One amendment makes it illegal to deploy Homeland Security officers (Border Patrol, US Secret Service, ICE) in American cities, the other would make it illegal to send in DOJ forces (US Marshals, FBI, ATF).
Let that sink in... The operation is named after a 4-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a stray bullet while he was asleep in his bed. Democrats' solution is to make it illegal to send out ATF agents to enforce federal firearm laws against these killers...
The Left's Trump Derangement Syndrome has gotten so bad that they would actually prefer innocent people continue to die, than allow the feds to put down the violence and riots.
The Left believes they have the votes to pull the plug on Operation Legend once and for all.
Multiple Republicans -- in both the House and Senate -- have already indicated that they will vote with the Democrats when the bill hits the floor. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) says that it should be left to cities and states to police their neighborhoods, not the feds. What he conveniently left out was that those local and state police have been ordered to stand down...
The GOP is not going to hold the line on this unless you force them to. Just like the Democrats, the GOP cares more about protecting their own re-election prospects and they believe that is best done by voting to defund Operation Legend.
More than 1,900 people have been shot in Chicago this year alone... That is 550 more than last year, and there are still five months left in 2020...
This is the status quo that Democrats and Republicans are fighting to protect. They are okay with innocent people dying if it means they get to serve Trump a "loss."
Trump is doing everything he can, but if these amendments are passed into law, the administration will have no choice but to end Operation Legend and surrender the streets to the mob.
