The Mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantreell (D) just signed an emergency order announcing that she has the power to suspend the 2nd Amendment inside the city limits to respond to the coronavirus.
What do gun and ammunition sales have to do with the coronavirus? Absolutely nothing. This is just another example of Democrats trying to take advantage of this panic to push through the policies that they have tried and failed to implement for decades.
As of this morning, the entire state of Louisiana has tested 451 people, reported 171 confirmed cases of coronavirus, and suffered four fatalities. Mayor Cantrell believes that is enough of a crisis to suspend the 2nd Amendment in a city of over 400,000 people.
But she is not the first mayor to take these steps and declare that the 2nd Amendment is on the chopping block. Last week, the city of Champaign, Illinois passed a new statute empowering the mayor to suspend all sales or transfers of firearms or ammunition inside the city. That came as the first person in Champaign County tested positive for the virus. One person tested positive for a disease and the first agenda item was to suspend Constitutional rights...
Going back to the New Orleans example, the emergency declaration actually goes even further. Mayor LaToya is also claims the power to suspend the transportation of, among other things, firearms. So, not only could residents be banned from acquiring firearms or ammunition, but they could also be barred from carrying their firearms on their person for protection. In one swift order, she is targeting the right to both keep and bear arms...
This is going to get worse. More liberal states and cities are advancing emergency orders and legislation which would force gun shops to close and suspend their residents' God-given right to self-defense.
They must be stopped!
The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution reads that "no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."
Under the 14th Amendment, these gun bans are unconstitutional. But we saw in a similar New Orleans case that the courts cannot be trusted to protect our rights. After Hurricane Katrina, the City of New Orleans ordered all residents to turn in their guns. "No one will be able to be armed," the New Orleans Superintendent said at the time. Police went door to door and literally confiscated residents' firearms, leaving them powerless to defend against the looters and criminals trying to take advantage of the emergency.
It took a whole month before a Federal judge stepped in and stopped the confiscations, but at that point, the damage was already done. The City claimed that they "lost" many of the firearms and the ones that were returned were almost all so rusted that they were inoperable or worthless.
No, the courts cannot be trusted to defend our rights. And even if Judges do eventually step in, it will be too late for the Americans who have already been disarmed...
The 14th Amendment has another clause, though: "The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."
When cities and states violate people's rights, the Constitution says it is up to Congress to put a stop to it.
That means it is up to YOU to demand it!
What is happening with these gun bans around the country is flagrantly unconstitutional. Mayors are using a handful of positive tests as an excuse to do what they have always wanted to do: come after the 2nd Amendment.
It won't just be limited to just Champaign, IL or New Orleans, LA. Politicians in states like California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania are all considering similar gun ban orders.
This is going to spiral out of control very quickly if these Leftists are not stopped. The Left is using this panic to chip away at your 2nd Amendment rights at a time when you need them the most.
You must fight back and it has to be right now!
