The Far Left is putting major pressure on Joe Biden to appoint what they are calling a "Gun Violence Prevention Czar."
Basically, they want Biden to assign a White House official to work day-in and day-out on the Left's gun control agenda.
Of course, the man at the top of that short-list is Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke. Besides his history as a failed Senate and then Presidential candidate, "Beto" is best known for his promise that "hell yes, we're coming for your guns."
This Gun Control Czar would work with the DOJ and ATF to implement changes to firearm policy and develop new legislation with Congress to impose new gun control on the country. When the Founding Fathers ratified the words "shall not be infringed" in the 2nd Amendment, this is precisely the kind of tyranny they feared.
And we are starting to get a sense of what that new gun control would look like: a massive, massive tax!
The United States learned a hard lesson during Prohibition. Simply making alcohol illegal didn't stop people from wanting to drink it. Bootleggers started distilling alcohol illegally and selling it on the black market. These bootleggers were heavily, heavily armed as well and shootouts with police were common.
Congress wanted to restrict the kinds of guns Americans could easily own, so they passed the National Firearms Act of 1934. This legislation restricted the ownership of machine guns, sawed off shotguns, short-barreled rifles, explosives, and a few other types of firearms. Americans were still allowed to own these guns, but they had to pay the government two-hundred bucks for the privilege.
To put it in perspective: this was the height of the Great Depression. Two-hundred bucks back then, when adjusted for inflation, had the buying power of more than 3,900 bucks in today's currency. This tax was designed to put these kinds of weapons out of reach of poor and middle class Americans and it worked. The wealthy continued to own these weapons but the poor and middle class were forced to give them up.
This is what Joe Biden wants to do to semi-automatic firearms. He wants to tax the ownership of semi-automatic "assault weapons" and so-called "large capacity magazines." The debate inside the administration, however, is how much to charge Americans.
They realize that going door to door to confiscate Americans' guns would be difficult (and costly). They believe they can tax gun ownership and force most gun owners to either register with the government (by paying the tax) or voluntarily relinquish their guns.
Even if they keep the tax at 200, a modest firearm collector could face thousands in new taxes. Personally, I'd owe at least 20k if this new tax went into effect. If you own an AR-15 (which is the most popular rifle in America) and even just four magazines, you would owe the government 1k for the privilege to continue owning them.
Other Democrats want to go even further. They want the two-hundred dol.lar tax to be adjusted for inflation. They want the tax to be as painful as it would have been in 1934, during the Great Depression. Not only would that mean a 4k tax for each offending firearm and magazine, but it would keep going up year after year...
If you are able to afford the tax, then you would have all of your guns registered with the Federal government. That way, if Democrats decide to implement door-to-door confiscations, they would know where to start.
This is the Left's top priority. They must be stopped!
The Left's goal is to make gun ownership too expensive for the average American. Either gun owners pay the tax (which would fund more gun control), voluntarily surrender/deactivate/modify their firearms, or they would violate the law, which would carry a 10-year prison sentence.
The Left believes it is a win-win-win. The only one who loses is YOU!
