Trump is finally able to start the process to withdraw from Obama's unconstitutionally signed UN Climate Treaty. But Democrats say they have a plan to stop him!
President Trump made major news this week. At an energy conference in Pittsburgh, Trump announced that over the next week, the United States will begin the process of formally withdrawing from the United Nations' Paris Climate Treaty.
From the very beginning, we have been fighting this monstrosity that Barack Obama had no right to sign.
The Constitution requires that the President receive the advice and consent of Congress before signing the United States onto any treaties. But that is not what Obama did with the UN's climate change treaty. He signed it without Congressional approval and had the administration begin implementing the treaty's terms by executive order.
And on top of all of that, Obama pledged to give the UN 3 billiond ollars to help them implement the treaty abroad. Those funds would be redistributed to countries like India and China to help them advance their energy and manufacturing sectors. In other words, this was just a massive wealth redistribution scheme designed to help the very countries that have been stealing American jobs... So, President Trump put his foot down.
"The Paris Accords would have been shutting down American producers with excessive regulatory restrictions like you would not believe, while allowing foreign producers to pollute with impunity," Trump told the audience in Pittsburgh. "What we won't do is punish the American people while enriching foreign polluters. I am proud to say it -- it's called America First."
When Obama unconstitutionally signed the treaty, he agreed to the United Nations' terms. One of those provisions created a lengthy process for the United States to withdraw from the treaty.
In order for Trump to actually pull the plug on this unconstitutional treaty, he has to send the UN two letters. The first letter can be sent starting next week, formally announcing that the United States is withdrawing from the treaty. But then the United States must wait another year before we can send the UN the final notice informing them that the withdrawal is complete.
Until that 2nd letter is delivered in November of 2020, the United States is stuck in the UN's radical climate treaty.
But Democrats are saying that will never happen. They have approved an amendment to the upcoming spending package that would block Trump from withdrawing from the treaty and pay the UN the billions that Obama promised!
The bill is H.R. 2938, the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act of 2020. This bill determines how the State Department can and cannot spend the funding that Congress gives them.
Democrats have slipped two provisions into the bill that are designed to keep Barack Obama's unconstitutional treaty alive. The first is found on page 220, in Section 7060(b)(1)(C):
"Funds in this Act and prior Acts may be made available for a contribution, grant, or any other payment for the Paris Agreement."
Then, in Section 7060(b)(1)(D), the Left goes for it all:
"None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act, or prior Acts making appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs, may be used to provide formal notification under Article 28 of the Paris Agreement of the withdrawal of the United States from such Agreement."
These two amendments would block Trump from finishing the withdrawal process and ensure that the United Nations can collect the 2+ billion that Obama promised to them...
The only reason we found this is because we read every single funding bill that gets introduced and search for poison pill amendments just like these two.
The media isn't going to cover two sentences inside of a 232 page spending bill. Barely any Americans even know that these provisions exist in the bill and the Left wants to keep it that way.
And you know that the cowards in the Republican Party aren't going to risk shutting down the United States' foreign policy apparatus over two obscure spending bill amendments.
But if this bill passes as-is, it would have truly disastrous consequences. Not only would the Trump administration be blocked from withdrawing from the treaty, but we would have to keep paying into the United Nations' wealth redistribution scheme!
Here is the bad news: The Left has GOP support on this.
When the Left held a test vote on UN climate funding last year in the Senate Appropriations Committee, Republicans jumped across the aisle to help them push it through. Senators Susan Collins and Lamar Alexander voted with Democrats to restore the UN climate funding and Lindsey Graham abstained during the vote. That gave Democrats the votes to push it through committee.
And when the amendment reached the floor, none of the Republicans tried to strip it out of the final bill. The amendment was hidden deep in the bill and it ended up being signed into law.
Now, the Left is going for it all. Even though Congress never ratified the UN Climate Treaty, this bill would make Obama's signature permanent. Trump would be legally blocked from withdrawing from the treaty. And when the United Nations demands that we pay the 2 billion that we "owe" them, these amendments would make it perfectly legal for the State Department to pay-up.
This is the next spending bill on the agenda. With Trump expected to start the withdrawal process early next week, Democrats are promising to force this through to stop him from finishing the process.
It all really does come down to this. And unless you rise up right now and fight back, they will make Obama's signature on the Paris Climate Treaty permanent!
