As we reported, Mitch McConnell took to the floor this week and filed to officially hold a vote on one of the biggest pro-life bills ever, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This legislation, quite simply, will make it illegal to abort an unborn child after 20-weeks, the point when a developing baby develops the ability to feel pain.
Democrats, predictably, vowed to kill the bill and stop it from passing.
But then, Mitch McConnell did something amazing. He filed a second pro-life bill: the Born-Alive Abortion Survivor Protection Act. (S.130)
Unlike the other bill that targeted late-term abortions, this legislation is designed to protect newborn babies who are born alive after botched abortion procedures. It simply states that when a baby is born alive, no matter the circumstance, they must be afforded full rights. Doctors and nurses must do everything to keep the newborn baby alive.
This is the type of legislation that shouldn't even be necessary. It should go without saying that when a baby is born, medical staff should take care of him or her.
Unfortunately, this legislation is necessary. Democrats are now advocating that women have a right to a post-birth abortion. Meaning, if a baby is born alive from a botched abortion attempt, and the mother doesn't want the baby, then she should have the right to deny the child medical care. Democrats are literally advocating infanticide now...
It is no surprise that Democrats are vowing to defeat the late-term abortion ban bill. But Democrats have gone eerily silent on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. They know that this is a common sense bill.
The GOP establishment is doing its job. This common sense bill has now been filed and will be voting on in the next week.
The ball is now in your court... It is up to YOU to force Congress to pass it!
When my wife was pregnant with our son, everyone told me that meeting my son for the first time would be the happiest moment of my life.
They were right, but it was also the most terrifying moment too. My wife went into labor 4 weeks before her delivery date. Not technically preterm, but close.
When my son was born, I stopped what I was doing to listen for his cry. There was silence. He wasn't breathing. A team of nurses took my son and moved him to a table under a heat lamp and immediately got to work clearing his airways.
After what felt like an eternity -- it was actually less than a minute -- I finally heard my little boy gasp for air and cry out. It was the most beautiful sound in the world.
The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act simply states that babies born from botched abortions deserve the same medical care that my son received when he entered the world. When a newborn baby struggles to take his or her first breath, and there are trained medical personnel there who can help them, this bill would force them to provide that care.
If a doctor or nurse deliberately neglected a newborn, this new legislation would call it what it is: murder.
This shouldn't be controversial. Protecting babies who are born alive doesn't actually have anything to do with abortion. The reason this is an abortion issue is because anti-life advocates actually believe that these born-alive children have no right to live. It is disgusting.
But this one bill would put a stop to this, once and for all. It would ensure that all babies born alive are treated with dignity and respect.
This is worth fighting for...
Democrats oppose this legislation because they claim it violates a woman's "right to choose" and violate her "reproductive rights." Pardon my language, but that is total crap.
In this instance, the woman has already reproduced. Killing an already born baby isn't an abortion, it is murder.
Here is the terrifying part: Every year, hundreds of babies are born alive from botched abortions. We have a chance, right now, to save lives.
With your help, we have fought tooth-and-nail to force the leadership to bring this common-sense bill up for a full vote. And now, they are doing just that.
