The No Bailouts For Illegal Aliens Act is common sense. It would cut off all coronavirus relief funding to city and state governments if they are caught sending bailout checks to illegal aliens.
Right now, the GOP and Democrats are negotiating a phase four stimulus package that would send between 500 billion and 1 trillion in federal funding directly to state and local governments. The Democrats want these funds to be 'unrestricted,' meaning that mayors and governors can use the funding however they want.
The GOP, however, is insisting on there being strings attached. They know that if they give hundreds of billions to Democrat-run cities and states without any stipulations, it will be abused. The Left will use it to bailout their bloated pension systems and even bailout illegal aliens, with very little actually reaching the American people.
That last one is a serious concern. California started disbursing stimulus checks to illegal aliens this past week. This is part of CA Gov. Gavin Newsom's plan to disburse 125 million in government assistance directly to illegal aliens. Chicago has also opened up their stimulus and government assistance programs to illegal aliens, refusing to differentiate between American citizens and illegals. New York is continuing spend millions to fund their legal defense program designed to help illegal aliens fight deportation orders. Go down the list of every major city and each one of them have rolled out stimulus and assistance programs designed exclusively to help illegal aliens.
After spending all that money on illegals, they are claiming they don't have enough funds to help Americans and are demanding a bailout from Congress.
As I said, Newsom is launching a 125 million government assistance program to help illegal aliens affected by the coronavirus. He doesn't have that just lying around. California is going deeper into debt to fund this program. The State just released its 2021 budget proposal and says they have no choice but to slash programs designed to help Americans.
Take the Barstow Veterans Home. Currently, the facility is home to approximately 200 elderly and disabled veterans. These men fought for their country. The least we can do is put a roof over their head. Well, Gavin Newsom now says California cannot afford to keep the veterans home open. His 2021 budget proposal would close the facility in order to save the State of California 400,000d ollars next year.
Yes, you read that correctly. Newsom plans to spend between 75 million and 125 million helping illegal aliens over the next year, but plans to kick 200 elderly and disabled veterans onto the streets to save the state 400 grand...
This is why Sen. Tom Cotton (R-IA) (shown above) wrote the No Bailouts For Illegal Aliens Act. It would make every cent of federal coronavirus aid contingent on states and localities not providing stimulus bailouts or government assistance to illegal aliens. Any state caught sending stimulus checks to illegal aliens would lose access to ALL federal coronavirus relief funding. This is common sense.
If Congress is going to give cities and states funding -- which already is happening -- then that funding should be used to help Americans and legal permanent residents... NOT illegal aliens.
The GOP is advancing this bill in their "negotiations" with the Left. But they cannot be trusted to hold the line on their own. Unless you hold their feet to the fire, the Republicans will cave!
The fact that there are actually Democrats in Congress scheming to try to send relief funding to illegal aliens is despicable. But this legislation would stop that, at both the state and federal levels.
This is about putting Americans first. With 40 million Americans on unemployment and countless businesses teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, helping them should be our priority. But so many on the Left actually want to put Americans last and illegal aliens first...
The GOP leadership has agreed to advance Tom Cotton's No Bailouts For Illegal Aliens Act into the phase four stimulus negotiations, but they are already warning that it might get left out. They are already warning that they are going to cave and leave it out of the next bill!
The only way to ensure that they push this bill across the finish line, and don't cave to the Left's demands like they always do, is to hold their feet to the fire right now. And to do that, we need your help!
We have a chance to put a stop to these illegal alien bailouts once and for all, but that window is quickly closing!
