Happening Now: Ted Cruz is making a major push to defund the United Nations and he needs your help!
Senator Ted Cruz, fresh off his re-election victory, is leading the charge to defund the United Nations. And it couldn't come at a more-needed time...
It is well documented that the United Nations is trying to attack our sovereignty. They are attacking our borders by helping illegal aliens and migrants game the system to get asylum in the US. They are attacking our taxpayers by demanding that the US re-fund the Paris Climate Agreement to redistribute American wealth to 3rd World Countries like India to build up their industry. And now, the United Nations is physically attacking the security and safety of the United States and our allies. The UN General Assembly just rejected Trump's resolution condemning Hamas for shooting rockets into Israeli population centers.
Senator Cruz says it is time to pull the plug and he is absolutely right!
Here is what makes Senator Cruz's plan so brilliant: it is already US law. Back in the 1990s, Congress passed two statutes prohibiting taxpayer funding from going to any UN body that formally recognized Palestine as a state. This past week, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution affirming that Palestine is in fact a state.
That puts every cent of UN funding in the crosshairs!
Believe it or not, the last time that Ted Cruz introduced this bill, he had the most unlikely of allies: Chuck Schumer. Just before Trump took office, there was a major bipartisan push to defund the United Nations because of its gross anti-Israel bias. Even President Trump joined the calls to defund the UN.
The UN was able to convince the Congressional leadership to abandon the defunding plan. But President Trump decided to go his own way. He defunded UN organizations like the UNESCO and the Palestinian Refugee Agency. He withdrew the United States from the United Nations' radical climate change and gun control treaties. All-told, President Trump has cut hundreds of millions.
Ted Cruz is pushing to make Congress finish the job.
But the GOP leadership wants to do the opposite. In just 11 days, Congress must pass a new State Department Appropriations Act, which will include appropriations totals for foreign aid and the United Nations.
Those bills, as they sit right now, would restore most of the cuts that Trump made to the UN this past year. Here's an example: the Senate's version of the bill actually restores funding to the UN body that manages the Paris Climate Agreement. Trump withdrew the US from that unconstitutional agreement, but a handful of GOP Senators -- Lamar Alexander, Susan Collins, and Lindsey Graham -- teamed up with Democrats to push the funding restoration through committee. That betrayal is now one vote away from becoming law and opening the door for the UN to grab billions in US taxdol.lars.
Go down the list and it is the same with all of the UN's radical programs. Moderate Republicans and Democrats are working to restore everything Trump has cut.
And unless you act right now, Congress will rubber stamp these pro-UN amendments!
Ted Cruz is working behind the scenes to put a stop to the establishment's plan. He is introducing amendments and resolutions to not only preserve the cuts Trump made, but to go even farther by cutting the entirety of the UN's funding.
But we are running up against the clock. The deadline to pull the plug on the UN is December 21, but the vote is going to come a lot sooner than that. While the border wall funding fight might go down to the wire, Congress is going to try to push through the UN funding bill this week.
Conservatives in Congress are waking up. They are starting to realize that this is their last and best chance to use the power of the purse before Democrats take over in January. The GOP establishment has realized the same thing and is rushing to restore as much of Trump's UN cuts as they can.
If we are going to defund the United Nations -- and I mean to completely pull the plug on the UN -- then we need to push for it right now before it's too late!
