The Democrats have a motto: Never let a good crisis go to waste.
And we saw the Democrat motto in full swing yesterday as news broke that there was a "mass shooting" at the Pensacola Naval Base in Pensacola, Florida.
Elizabeth Warren too charge, declaring that it is time to pass common sense gun safety legislation to end the "epidemic" of "gun violence." Dianne Feinstein released a statement expressing her condolences for the victims of the "shooting." And Nancy Pelosi called Donald Trump a coward for refusing to pass gun control and leaving Americans vulnerable to gun violence.
There was only one problem. The shooting at the Pensacola Base wasn't gun violence... it was a terror attack. The shooter is a Saudi Arabian Air Force pilot who was in the United States for training. He got his hands on a gun (illegally) and decided to kill as many American servicemen as he could.
This was a terrorist attack committed by a foreigner on a military base using an illegally acquired gun.
And the Democrats want to use this tragedy to disarm YOU.
It doesn't matter that their gun control bills wouldn't have stopped this shooting, or any other shooting for that matter. They are determined to eliminate your right to keep and bear arms... and now they have Republican help!
Democrats are desperate to pass legislation to prove to the American people that they can do more than just investigate the President. They have spent the past week talking with Republicans to see if there was something -- anything -- that could pass on a bipartisan basis. The GOPers all had one response: gun control.
The bill is a simple one: the Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act -- written by Sen. Marco Rubio -- would expand the government's gun disarmament powers.
Right now, in order for the government to revoke someone's gun rights, prosecutors have to prove -- beyond a reasonable doubt -- that they actually did something wrong. This requires the government to charge a gun owner with a crime, present the evidence at trial, and convince a judge and jury that the defendant is guilty.
That is what it means to have a right to keep and bear arms. The Government has to prove beyond a doubt that someone broke the law before the right can be revoked.
But the Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act would change that. The bill would allow the government to disarm gun owners without even having to accuse them of breaking the law.
No charges... no trial... All the government would need to do is convince a single judge that it is "more likely than not" that a gun owner is "dangerous." If a judge believes there is at least a 51% chance that someone is dangerous -- and there is no legal definition for what constitutes "dangerous," so judges would just be able to make it up on their own -- then the gun owner being targeted would lose their gun rights for up to a year.
During this entire process, the government would never have to file charges against the gun owner. By all definitions, the gun owner is legally innocent throughout this entire ordeal. And yet, they would still be completely disarmed.
This is the "compromise" gun control bill that Lindsey Graham and the GOP are offering Democrats. And the Dems are taking the deal!
This is what the Left has always wanted: the power to disarm innocent gun owners without even having to charge them with a crime.
And the GOP is offering to give it to them. Republicans think they need to "do something on guns" in order to save their political careers and the Dems are desperate to pass something to prove they aren't just focused on impeachment.
Republicans and Democrats are calling it a "win-win." The only loser in this deal is you...
The bill would turn your gun rights into a privilege that the government can revoke at any time. This is more dangerous than any gun control push we have ever faced...
And unless we stop this betrayal right now, the Dems will have the votes to push this monstrosity through!
