It all begins tomorrow. Congress goes back into session and we will likely know by the end of the day whether the GOP establishment stands with Trump and the American people or not.
President Trump is laying into Democrats and RINOs this morning on border security and the need for the wall.
“The Democrats don't want money from budget going to border wall despite the fact that it will stop drugs and very bad MS 13 gang members,” he wrote on Twitter, “Eventually, but at a later date so we can get started early, Mexico will be paying, in some form, for the badly needed border wall.”
The President has given Congress a crystal-clear ultimatum. Either they fund the initial parts of the border wall in order to get the project up and running or else he will veto their bill and let the government shutdown.
Democrats are out in force on the Sunday talk shows trying to pre-emptively blame Trump for a government shutdown. They are hoping to spin the blame away from themselves to the President.
No way!
It has been three days since Trump dropped the hammer on Congress.
Honestly, Paul Ryan is in shock. He’s spent the past year stabbing Trump in the back, he never thought that the President would return the favor.
When you and I put Republicans back in charge of the House, the GOP turned around and said they needed the Senate to get anything done. Then, we flipped the Senate in 2014 and the GOP said they need a Republican President to get anything done.
Now, here we are. We are on the precipice of fully securing our border and accomplishing what Republicans have been trying to do since Reagan was in office. But the GOP in Congress doesn’t want to build the wall. They are refusing to fund it.
So, President Trump has given them a choice. Either they honor their oath and help him build the wall or Trump will make it clear to the American people that if they want Conservative government, they will need to make serious changes in Congress.
Paul Ryan has adopted a tactic right out of John Boehner playbook. When Boehner was unwilling to compromise with Conservatives, he would remove every conservative piece of funding from the budget and team up with Democrats to get it passed.
Now, Ryan is doing the same. He doesn’t care if Conservatives in Congress vote against his budget bill. It is already guaranteed to pass with Democrat support.
That is why Trump’s move is so important. For the first time, we have a President committed enough to call out the GOP establishment on their cowardice.
We have a President who is actually threatening to veto a funding bill and shutdown the Federal government if Republicans in Congress turn their backs on promises made to the American people.
But he needs your help to drop the hammer on Congress and force them to build the wall!
The RINOs are making the same assumptions as the Democrats. They assume that they’ll be able to spin this to turn the American people against the President.
It is up to you – literally up to you – to prove them wrong. The Republicans are nervous. They know that the more exposure their surrender gets, the harder it will be for them to follow through with it. They may even try to force a vote tomorrow or the next day to stop the momentum building against them.
I think that we’ll be able to get border wall funding re-added to the budget bill heading to the floor this week. That is why we are spending so much time on this issue.
Now that we have a President willing to fight for the wall and willing to even shut down the government over it, it is up to you and I to pressure Congress into submitting to his demands.
This is about convictions. President Trump is willing to go all away to defeat the Republican establishment and ensure a wall is built. You and I need to go all the way as well!
