Over the weekend, there was another mass shooting in Texas. A deranged 36-year-old man, who had just been fired from his job, opened fire on police officers during a routine traffic stop. He then proceeded to hijack a postal service truck and go on a shooting rampage around Midland and Odessa, Texas.
Democrats immediately used this to demand that Republicans fall in line and vote to pass the Feinstein-Cicilline Assault Weapons Ban of 2019. All that police had reported was that the shooter was a white male who used an AR-15, and that was enough for Democrats to renew their push to pass the biggest gun ban ever introduced.
But, like always, the Democrats jumped the gun. Here at Conservative Daily, we have a policy of not naming mass shooters. We refuse to give them the infamy that they crave. But what we can report is that Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed that the shooter failed his background check. He went to buy a gun and was turned away by the FBI.
The media has not been able to find any felonies in his record, so that means that he was most likely turned away for mental health reasons. That explains why neither the Governor's office nor the FBI will explain why he failed his background check. It is probably technically still private medical data.
What did the shooter do after failing his background check? He found someone who would sell him the gun illegally.
The background check system worked. But like all criminals, he refused to obey the law and armed himself anyway. The law failed to stop him because he didn't care about the law.
That isn't stopping Democrats, though. They are still pushing their gun ban bill and Republicans are still eager to help them pass it into law.
But after this weekend, the Democrats are now changing their strategy. They don't want to just ban new purchases/sales of semi-automatic weapons. The Left is now calling for a total ban and a nationwide mandatory "buy-back"!
Congressman Beto O'Rourke came out immediately after the shooting, before any of the facts were known, and demanded a nationwide confiscation of all semi-automatic firearms. Joe Biden also declared that if he wins the Presidency, he will make all semi-automatic weapons illegal and force gun owners to sell them back to the government.
But Democrats don't want to wait that long. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) (shown above) is now moving to force a vote on an amendment that would not only ban semi-automatic firearms, but implement a nationwide "buy-back."
Democrats keep using this term, so it is important to explain what they mean. When you hear the term "buy-back," that is nothing but a euphemism for confiscation. The guns would be banned and gun owners would be required, by law, to sell them back to the government.
The whole premise, though, is ludicrous. Sell them back? The government never gave us our guns or our rights. But that is how the Left views the 2nd Amendment. They believe that our gun rights are a gift from government and can be revoked at anytime. But you and I know that isn't true.
As John Locke famously wrote, we are endowed by our Creator with the right to life, liberty, and property. You have a right to self-defense because you have a right to defend your life, liberty, and property. The 2nd Amendment doesn't grant you this right. It merely recognizes that the right exists and prohibits the government from infringing on it...
But the Left doesn't care about the Constitution or your rights. They want to disarm every American and won't stop until they do it!
As you know, the House Judiciary Committee will be voting on the Left's gun control package. That vote was supposed to be tomorrow, but it is being rescheduled to early next week because of the hurricane. Rep. Swalwell sits on the House Judiciary Committee. He is vowing force the vote to amend the Feinstein-Cicilline Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 to force a buy-back of all semi-automatic weapons in the country.
The estimate is that there are at least 390 million civilian-owned guns in the United States. Easily half, if not more, are semi-automatic. And the Democrats are coming for all of them!
The cowardly Republicans are already offering to "compromise." They are offering Democrats a "voluntary" semi-automatic weapon buyback and a ban on future semi-automatic sales and purchases. They want to meet the Left halfway on the most radical gun ban ever proposed...
Just to show how radical this is: If the bill passes, Americans would still be allowed to own fully-automatic machine guns, as long as they can afford the fees and pass the rigorous background check, but would no longer be allowed to possess the most commonly-owned semi-automatic handguns, rifles, or shotguns.
Don't let the talking points fool you. The Feinstein-Cicilline Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 doesn't target "weapons of war." There isn't a single country on earth that uses any of the banned guns in the bill as their standard-issue military rifles. Countries go to war with machine guns, not semi-automatic rifles...
No, this is all about disarming YOU!
The bill would ban tens of millions of self-defense and target shooting handguns. If a semi-automatic pistol has a threaded barrel, weighs too much, accepts a detachable magazine outside of the grip, or has an arm brace (which was designed to help disabled vets learn to shoot again), it would be banned.
The legislation also bans 204 models of semi-automatic rifles and shotguns by name. But it doesn't stop there. It would also ban any semi-automatic rifle or shotgun that accepts a detachable magazine and has a "grip, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip." That is a straight quote from the bill. If it is possible to hold it in your hand, that would make it a banned assault weapon.
And the GOP is negotiating with the Left over this. Congressmen Mast (R-FL), King (R-NY), Turner (R-OH), and Smith (R-NJ) are all working with Democrats to make this gun ban a reality.
This is how it starts. Don't think for one second that the GOP will hold the line on its own.. When the original gun ban bill passed in 1994, 45 Republicans ended up flipping and voting with the Left. The surrender has already begun...
The Left wanted to force this gun ban through tomorrow, but the Hurricane threw a wrench in their plans.
That means there is still time to stop this!
