The House Intelligence Committee met Thursday morning to grill the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Joseph Maguire, about the "whistleblower" report at the heart of the Democrats' latest impeachment push.

I use the term "whistleblower" lightly because the individual was not a fact witness. He/She didn't hear the phone conversation or read the transcript. They filed their complaint based on rumors they heard from other government officials.

President Trump called the Democrats' bluff and released the full transcript of his conversation with the Ukrainian President. After days of media speculation that Trump bribed a foreign government to help him win an election, we now know that narrative was a complete lie. There was no bribe. There was no pressure.

Here is the relevant portion of the transcript.

Trump: "There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that, so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution, so if you can look into it… It sounds horrible to me."

Trump heard that the previous Vice President abused his power and saw the Vice President admit to it on camera. All Trump is asking is that Ukraine look into it to see if it was kosher or not.

But by the way Democrats are describing it, you would think that Trump was conspiring to steal an election. Democrats are calling Trump a traitor over this, and even accusing him of treason. It is ridiculous.

The worst offender would have to be Adam Schiff. Listen to how Schiff described the phone call during Thursday's hearing.

“Zelensky begins by ingratiating himself, and he tries to enlist the support of the president. He expresses his interest in meeting the president and says his country wants to acquire more weapons to defend itself. And what is the president’s response? Well, it reads like a classic organized crime shakedown. Shorn of its rambling character and in not so many words, this is the essence of what the president communicates.”

"'We’ve been very good to your country, very good, no other country has done as much as we have, but you know what, I don’t see much reciprocity here. I hear what you want. I have a favor I want from you, though. And I’m going to say this only seven times, so you better listen good. I want you to make up dirt on my political opponent, understand, lots of it, on this and on that. I’m going to put you in touch with people, not just any people, I’m going to put you in touch with the Attorney General of the United States, my Attorney General Bill Barr. He’s got the whole weight of the American law enforcement behind him. And I’m going to put you in touch with Rudy — you’re going to love him, trust me. You know what I’m asking, and so I’m only going to say this a few more times in a few more ways. And by the way, don’t call me again, I’ll call you when you’ve done what I’ve asked.’

“This is in sum and character what the president was trying to communicate with the president of Ukraine. It would be funny if it wasn’t such a graphic betrayal of the president’s oath of office."

You're hearing a lot of this likely. "In essence..." Democrats know that their narrative is busted if they quote the actual transcript, so they are paraphrasing it to say what they want it to say.

This whole ordeal has revealed the horrible confirmation bias on the Left. They are so convinced that Trump would collude with a foreign power to steal an election, that they inject that bias into everything they hear about.

The President of the United States has every right to ask a foreign country to look into misdeeds from the previous administration. Democrats are trying to spin this as a campaign violation because if Biden were prosecuted for this, that would help Trump's campaign.

In essence, they are saying that it would be a campaign finance violation to investigate any Democrat Presidential candidate. By the Democrats' logic, simply declaring yourself a candidate is enough to make you off-limits to Presidential scrutiny. It is maddening.

And remember, this is the same crowd that told Trump that if he did nothing wrong, then he would have nothing to hide from the Mueller investigation. That complete transparency was necessary. But now that the spotlight is on Biden, it's a crime to even ask if he and his son broke the law...

Democrats are so desperate to impeach Trump that they are pushing forward even as their narrative falls apart...
