Congress must pass a new government spending package by November 21 in order to avoid a government shutdown. For months, Democrats have said that they will not allow any appropriations bills to pass unless Republicans agree to cut off funding to the border wall project.
The Trump administration is building new sections of border wall at a breakneck pace. This week, news broke that the administration has begun the process of acquiring more land at the Texas border to build the wall. On top of that, the private group We Build The Wall is building a border wall section on private land that they plan to hand over to the government when it is finished.
All of this is possible because of a national emergency declaration that Pres. Trump signed at the beginning of the year. Trump declared the unsecure border to be a threat to our national security and ordered Pentagon funding to be used to build at least 450 miles of new border wall.
In the Spring and the Fall, Democrats tried to push through two resolutions to cancel the border wall funding and revoke the national emergency order. Each time, the Left got two dozen Republicans to join them in voting against the President. When the bills ultimately reached Trump's desk, the President vetoed them. Neither the House nor the Senate had the two-thirds supermajority necessary to override Trump's veto.
The left failed because they didn't have any leverage. Since their anti-wall bill was a standalone measure, they had nothing to use to force Trump to sign it.
But now, Democrats believe they have the leverage. They have slipped not one, but TWO anti-border wall amendments into the Pentagon and Homeland Security's funding bills and Congress must vote on them this week!
The first Democrat poison pill amendment is found in section 227 of the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2020. It reads that not even a cent of tax payer money can go towards border wall construction, renovation, or repair. That's right, if a cartel smuggler cuts a hole or knocks down a section of existing fencing, this amendment would make it illegal for Border Patrol to even patch it up...
Democrats have also slipped an anti-wall provision into Section 2801 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2020. It states that "military construction funds may not be obligated, expended, or otherwise used to design or carry out a project to construct, replace, or modify a wall, fence, or other physical barrier along the international border between the United States and Mexico."
While the first amendment would stop Border Patrol from repairing or expanding existing wall segments, the amendment in Section 2801 would claw back the funding from Trump's national emergency order and pull the plug on the Army Corps of Engineers current construction projects.
Democrats believe this is a one-two punch to put a stop to the border wall project for good.
Right now, Congress has entered the reconciliation period. The House versions of these bills include the anti-border wall amendment. The Senate versions do not. If the GOP and Democrat leadership cannot come to an agreement by the end of next week, then the government will shut down.
Democrats are refusing to budge. The only question left is whether Republicans will hold the line, or simply cave like they always do.
For the past three years, the GOP has caved on the border wall. They have agreed to block wall construction funds in order to keep the government funded. Every time, they have promised that they will fight for border wall construction next time.
Well, here we are. This is the final appropriations package of Trump's first term. If Trump loses re-election, this will be the last chance we ever have to secure the border.
But the GOP is already caving!
Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) is the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He sent a warning to the White House this week, telling the President that he had better sign whatever bill Congress sends him... even if it cancels the funding for the border wall.
The GOP is full of cowards. We have known that for years. But the one thing that these people care about is protecting their careers. They are terrified of losing their power.
And the same is true with the Democrats. There are 40 House Democrats up for re-election in districts that Trump won in 2016. There are also Senate Democrats, like Doug Jones and Joe Manchin, who represent red states and know it would be political suicide to vote against the wall.
This is where you come in... The final vote must be held this week. Republicans and Democrats have no choice. By the end of the week, Congress will have to pass a bill to fund the government.
If the border wall funding stays intact, then Trump will be able to build another 400 miles of new wall over the next 11 months. But if the Democrats get their way and the GOP caves, it is all over. All border wall projects would end and all construction would grind to a halt.
This is it. It is now or never. If the Republicans cave, there will be no coming back.
We finally have a President willing to do whatever it takes to secure the border. And now right as new sections of border wall are finally going up, the GOP cowards want to stab Trump in the back. They want to stab YOU in the back!
That is why if you care about securing the border, you must rise up right now and fight!
